That's pretty interesting. I clearly need to bone up on my TW lore. It's been awhile and I'm just now getting reacquainted. Although I wonder if concentrating on the lore, as we all obviously do, is beside the point. Or at least somewhat beside the point. Frost & Lynch definitely had a fairly cohesive plot and internally-consistent universe in mind, but I wonder if it was really more about the general experience.
What made Twin Peaks unique most of all was the atmosphere - a creepily compelling combination (alliteration unintended) of soap opera & film noir. The likes of which have never been seen before or since. The mystical/magical/lore elements certainly contribute in a huge way, but I'm increasingly viewing them as a means to an end. After all, Blue Velvet was intended to take place in the same universe as Twin Peaks, and the two have nothing to do with one another, plot-wise.
In which case the new series need not necessarily build on Cooper, Palmer, & Bob, although that is certainly what fans will expect.
