CRT Burn in, fixable?

I have an opportunity to obtain another PVM-20l5.
The downside is that it has some burn in, does this mean the display is ruined or is there a way to recondition it?

Image burn-in is not fixable, short of doing a tube swap. You'd probably be better off waiting for one with a burn-free tube.

(I've heard some methods to possibly "fix" it, but that seems to involve degrading the rest of the tube to more closely match the burnt parts, and to me that just sounds like a bad idea)

Depends how bad the burn in shows when in use as to whether its worth worrying about or not.

It's a terrible idea, I had a screen which was uniformly burned and the image was dull and lifeless.

You know, my own 20L5 might be a good candidate for replacing yours. Some of the internal supports got busted (lousy shippers) and there's the weirdness in 480i on the screen top - none of this seems to be tube related. It's just too bad you're all the way across Canada. Still, if you ever could arrange anything like that, I'd probably be able to accommodate you.

Well, I don't have it the burned in 20l5. was considering it, but sounds like its more trouble than its worth.

But ya, between the burned in one and yours I'm guessing one could make 1 good working unit out of the two. I'm not CRT tech however.
Sad to hear your L5 got damaged. Maybe you should grab it, stick your tube in it. It's on ebay

The 20l5 I have has some odd issues with the onboard RGB inputs, get weird waves, component, composite works fine. and issue doesn't occur with my BKM-192x input card. Maybe I could swap out that board or something, I could use a new bezel too lol.

The 20L5 is complicated-looking enough on the inside that I'm not sure a tube swap is something I'd mess with unless it was the only way to get a working unit. There's lots of fiddly connectors and stuff. The broken bits are just a variety of plastic supports - the set holds together well even with many of them severed (and they can be glued back into place). So I definitely wouldn't go and buy a separate 20L5 just to do a tube swap - only if it was necessary to rescue an otherwise perfectly working one.

I think I see the one you're referring to. Caifornia, $50 asking? If I was local it might be worth it, but I'm not, so I'd probably just get another set with broken internals. Heh.

Yeah, $50 for the l5 $50 something for shipping. Cosmetically it looks good but I can see the burn in, seems like your just buying a problem. tho I know parts for these things is almost impossible to get having a parts unit might be worth it. I have an L2 and a 1354q, the 1354q looks better than the l2. but nothing compes close to the l5.

You know what kind of remote I can use with the l5, the 2x30 series had regular tv remotes but I dunno. I hate using those buttons on the bezel.

I didn't want it for $50.

It even had scratches on the screen, but maybe you could have removed the glare protector thing like phonedork did. Not that the tube isn't compromised as it is with the burn in.
