I was going to say something nice, but that off axis color shift (too dark at the left, too blanched at the right) is something I would not happily accept. But if I was using that screen, I'd just put it in normal orientation and use the middle portion of the screen to reduce strain on my eyes. Is it just me, or is the picture shifted to the bottom (what would be the left of the screen in normal orientation)?
Still it is a nice demonstration of what to expect from more modern TN panels. Might be usable for many, but it actually looks rather similar to how I remember my quite old (c. 2005/6?) SyncMaster 204B looking when tated.
ASUS (VS278H) 27" 1ms Monitor , how much Input Lag ?

Well maybe to your eyes it does, to mine the color shift is obvious.MSZ wrote:On my setup, a tated 27-inch TN monitor looks absolutely fine.
Experience tate/portrait on an IPS or VA -> never go back to TN.
Here's an Iiyama XB2783HSU-B1 (AMVA+) to illustrate;

Re: ASUS (VS278H) 27" 1ms Monitor , how much Input Lag ?
Seeing those I'm beginning to get interested in replacing my Samsung 2494HM (TN-Panel) with a more recent model.
While the Samsung S27C750P seems quite interesting, it lacks one feature I find vitally important: height adjustment.
Searching for an alternative I found the Asus VN279Q. Any thoughts on the model? The test on prad.de (http://www.prad.de/new/monitore/test/20 ... 79qlb.html) made it sound quite nice, while I'm quite sceptical about its 50 Hz capabilities (the test mentions problems, but doesn't go into detail).

The VN279Q is the same type as the Samsung S27C750P and Iiyama XB2783HSU, except for one thing: its backlight isn't 100% flicker-free, instead it works on high-frequency PWM (2500Hz).
EDIT: note only the VN279QL & VN279QLB come with a rotating stand.
While it shouldn't be of any problem for a huge majority of people, I've read a couple of complaints regarding motion blur. Were they serious or just BS ? I don't know, because I don't know if our brains are able to notice anything blinking at such high speed.
I read more complaints regarding quality issues though (uniformity/bleeding issues) which is a bigger concern.

Don't mind the blur, it's just the camera. The guy got a perfectly fine unit and was extatic.

Those three are AMVA+, you can add the BenQ BL2700HT that should be available soon to the list.
But if you're more interested in IPS instead you'll have to go for one of the below, unfortunately none except the Dell come with a rotating stand. As long as there's VESA mounting holes on the back you can buy one separately.
Samsung S27D390H or S27D590P (no stand, no VESA
)
LG 27MP75HM (VESA)
AOC 2777 (VESA)
Dell S2715H (just released in some parts of the world - Rotating stand included I believe)
Regarding 50Hz compatibility, sorry I never check that since I don't play PAL games (or very rarely).

Re: ASUS (VS278H) 27" 1ms Monitor , how much Input Lag ?
... rotating stand? What I'm searching for is height adjustment. I need that as I also use my monitor for watching movies and reading long texts from a lowered position (like Ikea POÄNG lowered).
Also, while I'm at it: I need a VGA input.
The Iiyama XB2783HSU has both - I will look into that! Thank you!

I always assume people on a shmups forum favor tate/portrait. ^^
Also height adjustment often come with the full-adjustable stands.

Actually I don't even play shmups
Anyway - the Iiyama XB2783HSU looks great so far! Seems like a good upgrade from my current monitor while having about the same price point.

I think this is the second time I've read this today. What is going on !?Thomago wrote:Actually I don't even play shmups![]()
Yes that Iiyama as well as most AMVA+ in general are very good all-rounders, not fast enough for FPS (or similarly fast-moving 3D games), but good-enough for everything else.

Depends on the game, DOJBLEX for example, doesn't have this option.
