Recommended Anime/Manga?
Re: Recommended Anime/Manga?
is Eureka Seven good? I been meaning to watch it for a while and now G Reco has renewed my interest, a lot of people seem to like it a lot.
Re: Recommended Anime/Manga?
5th time telling you this xP. Eureka7 is the best mecha series produced by Bones and one the best series of the last decade. It's great from beginning to end, you are gonna love it.

Re: Recommended Anime/Manga?
hehe I know sorry - just wanted to be sure before adding it to my ever more confusing 'watching' list :pKAI wrote:5th time telling you this xP. Eureka7 is the best mecha series produced by Bones and one the best series of the last decade. It's great from beginning to end, you are gonna love it.

It's nothing special but a far way away from being terrible.Raytrace wrote:is Eureka Seven good?
Of course, my true goal is to get everyone to watch the most horrible abominations of all time.
You should really give Nabari No Ou a try. At least the first twenty six episodes. For science!
Re: Recommended Anime/Manga?
According to the synposis it's about highschool kids secretly being ninjas. Goddamn.BryanM wrote:You should really give Nabari No Ou a try. At least the first twenty six episodes. For science!
At least recommend Hidan no Aria, which is at least mostly hilarious while being complete trash.
The first time I watched Eureka 7 many years ago I thought it was fanatastic, and the one time I tried to rewatch it years later I thought it was boring. I'd say it's worth checking out at least.Raytrace wrote:is Eureka Seven good?

Don't worry about it. You can travel from the Milky Way to Andromeda and back 1500 times before the sun explodes.

It's about gay ninjas who spend 9 hours resisting the urge to be gay or ninja. Spoiler alert: they succeed.ryu wrote:According to the synposis it's about highschool kids secretly being ninjas.

I think I'll have to check that out... haven't seen a terrible J.C.Staff Show that makes me want to jump out of the window in waaay too longBryanM wrote:It's about gay ninjas who spend 9 hours resisting the urge to be gay or ninja. It is awesome, and has great animation, but i feel it drags a bit much. 50 something episodes was maybe too much?KAI wrote:5th time telling you this xP. Re: Recommended Anime/Manga?
Agreed Eureka7 is quite good, maybe a bit too long yes, and maybe not-so-awesome for an adult viewer (cheesy teenager romance inside). ^^
Anime shows of that level of quality are rare, if non-existent today.

Re: Recommended Anime/Manga?
Well I have watched 1.5 episodes of Eureka Seven now and so far I am loving it, though there is one thing which annoys me, stupid as it may be it really annoys me how everyone's regular footed, there's an anti-goofy conspiracy in media depiction of skating and surfing in general I find, even Sonic was rockin it left foot forward :p.
The animation in Eureka Seven is very very good I thought - and while it took a while to get used to the chara faces, I really like how smoothly and detailedly they are animated and have real emotion on their faces.

Re: Recommended Anime/Manga?
watched 2 episodes of Ideon and it feels like a silly saturday morning cartoon
does it stay like that all the way to the end?

Re: Recommended Anime/Manga?
it was never anything but brilliant to me though it has the usual 2nd quarter anime dip, and no it doesn't stay that way (not that I have any problem withBananamatic wrote:watched 2 episodes of Ideon and it feels like a silly saturday morning cartoon

saturday morning cartoons). IMO Ideon starts to feel genuinely unsettling and otherworldly. When people say Hideaki Anno was very influenced by Ideon when making Evangelion I think it is that feeling which is the biggest influence.

haha, get ready for some typical tomino scenes later on.Bananamatic wrote:watched 2 episodes of Ideon and it feels like a silly saturday morning cartoon

Re: Recommended Anime/Manga?
finally finished Dai-Guard - I really liked it though the art was a little plain.
Re: Recommended Anime/Manga?
Finally seen the original version of Ghost in The Shell last night. Quite nicely done with everything in the original version. Is the other Ghost in The Shell stuff worth checking out?
Re: Recommended Anime/Manga?
Yes, all of it, except for Arise. That's the two Oshii movies, both seasons of Stand Alone Complex, and the Solid State Society movie that serves as a conclusion to SAC.lilmanjs wrote:Finally seen the original version of Ghost in The Shell last night. Arise is okay, but it's not a must-watch like the rest of the franchise.

Re: Recommended Anime/Manga?
I never really liked SAC. Could never put my finger quite on why. For that reason I didn't get round to watching Innocence until a few months ago which was just amazing. More of a sequel to Oshii's Avalon and all the better for it.

Something other than laserdiscs for a change:

PCEngine is not newly aquired, just used for height comparison.

now just need a Rei to complete the set.

Re: Recommended Anime/Manga?
amazing - so that's the original Odaiba RX-78-2 model? what scale is it? 1/48?
I have to say if I had a Souther figure I would find it very hard not to burn it though :p

Re: Recommended Anime/Manga?
I believe its non-scale but it’s a bit larger than 1/48, I would probably liken it to a 1/35. It stands at just over 50cm tall.Raytrace wrote:amazing - so that's the original Odaiba RX-78-2 model? what scale is it? 1/48?
Whats wrong with Souther? I thought he was a legit nice bloke.Raytrace wrote:I have to say if I had a Souther figure I would find it very hard not to burn it though :p
Didn't you see him find employment for all those freeloading children. The guy had a heart of gold (even if it was on the other side of his body).

looks very nice - is it a resin kit?DaneSaga wrote:

Re: Recommended Anime/Manga?
I like Oyasumi Punpun. What else should I read (other than the other works by the author).
IGMO - Poorly emulated, never beaten.

pre-painted. Mainly ABS plastic with a bit of soft vinyl for some parts. Pretty weighty at a smidgen over 3kg.Raytrace wrote:looks very nice - is it a resin kit?
There is a MS-06F Zaku II and Char's Custom Zaku II of this size too, so I may have to hunt them done sometime in the future as well. Would have been nice if they had of produced Ramba Ral's Gouf.
Re: Recommended Anime/Manga?
nice - yeah Ramba Ral and Norris are badass.DaneSaga wrote:

Re: Recommended Anime/Manga?
Am about halfway through Stardust Crusaders manga and watched the first JJBA OVA (well not the first, but the first in the JJBA timeline (the start of Stardust Crusaders)). It wasn't that bad really at all I thought, even though a lot of people seem to think it was shit.

Re: Recommended Anime/Manga?
Also I finally have started watching Cowboy Bebop - my aversion to a lot of jazz music has put me off for quite a while, but so far (I've seen 3 episodes) I do think it is deserving of every bit of praise it gets. The animation is detailed where it should be detailed and loose/artistic where it should be, also the movement is so fluid and well done. Also it's cool to hear Space Dandy's voice again (yes I know I am REALLY late to be watching Cowboy Bebop).
Re: Recommended Anime/Manga?
I googled this today and realized I know what this is! It is a thing. Full of buteis.ryu wrote:Hidan no Aria
Investi-magating this "J.C.Staff" company, it's kind of amusing how often they faceplant. I don't think anyone can be proud of having worked on Shakugan no Shana. Even the watchable fare they made that I like seems to have a specter of disappointment about it that's hard to articulate.
Maybe the studio's just haunted.
It's ok I only got around to Evangelion this year. Things happen. It's not like you had to be the lead writer of Shakugan no Shana or anything.yes I know I am REALLY late to be watching Cowboy Bebop
Re: Recommended Anime/Manga?
Read some Jiro Matsumoto. Fressia, Becchin & Mandara and Uncivilized Planet are good reading if you like psychotic shit.Drum wrote:I like Oyasumi Punpun. What else should I read (other than the other works by the author).
Watching Yuru Yuri 2 and Yama no Susume right now, I'm such a moefag.

JC Staff did Utena though didn't they? They could literally churn out shit for the rest of their lives and they'd still be legends.
did you like Evangelion? I have to say I really do - I'm planning my second rewatch soon :p
Re: Recommended Anime/Manga?
Build Fighters Try was ace and my 4 year old son also loved it. It's a pity Ramba Ral's seiyou is sick though
- though it does look like he got his parts done for this series.
