Saturn 'Y' button suddenly not working?

Post by korpse413 »

Hi guys, obviously new to Shmups, loving the content and discussions I've seen so far. Huge fan of the genre.

As for my issue, my resent console addition from a yard sale was a Sega Saturn, model 2 with two controllers / assorted games. After playing some SFA2 (I know it wasn't a shmup I have PD2Zwei and Darius Gaiden :P) with it working fine for hours, all of a sudden the 'Y' button wasn't registering on controller port 1. I open the controller, clean the contacts, test, same issues. I immediately think its controller so I test controller #2 in port 1, same thing! This has me afraid. I plug in both controllers, test controllers on port 2 and 'Y' button works fine... When I brought the system home I cleaned the shell of cosmetic dust, as I do will all my systems, know my way around them inside, etc. I practice most safety measures so we should rule out any careless faults.

Any ideas? Maybe a blown cap of some sorts? I find it strange that It is just one button, and that it happened out of the blue. I 'sprayed' port 1 with some compressed air and isopropyl lightly on contacts by gently using a cloth used for cleaning eyeglasses and a thin credit card and going up and down not trying to bend contact pins.

Thanks for any advice / feedback in advance! I hope to add what I can to others on this forum as well, cheers!

*EMBARRASSMENT* So I found out the issue... you can toggle the button config as soon as pause menu comes up... must have messed with layout, since it dawned on me to test a different game... I guess I didn't follow my own line from above with careless flaws... hope this laughingstock helps someone, or admin can delete this thread, sorry guys maybe if I was playing Thunder Force V this wouldn't have happened. Cheers.
