CRT TV Service Menu
What is the best way to access a CRT's service menu? I would like to adjust the Overscan on the CRT that I occasionally play on but I can't seem to find any codes or inputs for the model I have. I'm pretty sure all CRT TV's from the 90's to present have a service menu built in so I know that's not the issue.

Re: CRT TV Service Menu
The only thing I can recommend is to try and find codes for other konka TV's from around the same time period.

Re: CRT TV Service Menu
I've tried that to but no luck in finding similar models. Maybe I'm not looking in the right places? Any other suggestions?
Hopefully this is not one of those TV's that can only be adjusted manually using the circuit board with the proper adjustment tools.

Re: CRT TV Service Menu
Found a couple bits and bobs that might help, one suggested method:
Press menu button on remote control,
press recall 3 times,
if the TV set is locked press mute and 9 key three times. (not sure what locked means?).
There's a lot of information here if you're prepared to fish through it -
http://translate.google.co.uk/translate ... 6bih%3D633
Alternatively these guys seem to have a service manual for your model for $3.40
http://www.encompassparts.com/item/4200 ... ,_K2788uch
Good luck!

Those just look like the schematics for different models of TV's. Plus I can't seem to figure out how to download any of them.PAPER/ARTILLERY wrote:There's a lot of information here if you're prepared to fish through it -

This is becoming a real pain. I know Konka is not considered a major brand name but still.....I've seen brands I've never heard of be able to access the service menu. I wonder if I have to be on a certain channel or Input for the menu to appear.

Re: CRT TV Service Menu
You probably have the same problem as me.
I cant access my TV's service menu either with combination thats given for it. So i tried a bunch of tricks, no avail.
Later i figure out, the remote i have is not the actual one required to get into service menu. The one i have is model rca115a while the one required is rca115d. so go figure check if it is same with you.

I am using the remote that came with the TV when it was new. Are you saying I need a different Konka remote model just to access the service menu on this model?

Re: CRT TV Service Menu
Maybe, I dont know. What i know is some manufacturers have a consumer remote (no service menu) and a repair/debug remote. Probably not wanting customers to accidently open up the service menu and screw around.austin532 wrote:I am using the remote that came with the TV when it was new. I dont know how it is for your TV. The one I have is a Onida 29" CRT Thunderblahblah model. Have been trying to get into the service menu but couldnt. Then i figure out the only way to access service menu is from the remote with the model number RC115/A, i got RC115/D that originally came with the TV.

Re: CRT TV Service Menu
Do you have a universal remote, like a harmony? You can program it for different models of that brand to see if they work with the tv and has the buttons that are in that link I posted above.

Re: CRT TV Service Menu
Most, if not all, Harmony remotes let you program any button available to them. So it should work with a Harmony at least. Also the Timer button may be the same as Sleep. But the instructions I posted before may not work with this model anyways.nasty_wolverine wrote:From what i have heard, universal remotes usually cant open service menu. but give it a try.mickcris wrote:Do you have a universal remote, like a harmony? How do I know which remote is the repair/debug remote?

Maybe someone on the AVS forum would know. Here is a thread to request how to get into a service menu:

Re: CRT TV Service Menu
Alright, after a year or so of fiddling around and not being able to get in the Service Menu I finally made a huge discovery. I found a site online that mentions something weird. You are not going to believe this but there is a secret button inside the remote to turn on Factory Mode................WTF!?
After opening up the remote sure enough there are two buttons that are not accessible unless you cut holes in the cover. My only guess is that there is a master remote that allows access to these buttons and rather than make a new board they just used the same one and covered it. One button brings up production mode which as far as I can tell just allows you to move the position of the menus. Ehh ok? The second button turns on Factory Mode what I assume means service mode.
Unfortunately the war is not over yet. Whenever I turn on Factory Mode nothing happens.
No service menu, no amount of hours the TV has been used, no adjustment options, nothing! I'm so close yet so far. One thing I did notice though is that when Factory Mode is on, the numbers are disabled. My guess is you need to enter a 4-5 digit number to get into it. I've tried looking but every site says the same thing.
If anybody out there has any info what so ever, please let me know so I can finally end this.

That is... wow. I've never seen such a thing. Hidden buttons in a remote? Who the heck would think about taking the remote apart to find a service button?!
I would have never guessed that in a million years

This isn't something that wouldn't be in the service manual? That's how I found my TV's service menu. All other codes listed on the Internet were wrong.

Well 4 digits means 256 possibilities. You can brute force that easily.austin532 wrote:Unfortunately the war is not over yet. So I think I may have found another clue on this never ending journey from Hell. If you have Factory Mode on and plug in the TV, it automatically turns on where as if Factory Mode is off is doesn't.

Re: CRT TV Service Menu
Another step closer? So after randomly pushing numbers I managed to get this menu to come up.
http://postimg.org/image/ld0xvs9eh/
It's definitely some kind of service mode for the sound but I can't adjust anything else. It's almost feels like as if you need to enter certain numbers to adjust certain things. WTF? Very frustrating to be so close yet so far.
Anyone have any more ideas?
