I have about $12 in my US PSN account. I missed out on most PS1 shmups so which 2 games should I pick up from this list?

Sonic Wings Special
Dezaemon Plus!
Dezaemon Kids!
ZANACxZANAC
Shienryu
GaiaSeed

Does each region have a different difficulty on battle garegga? Am I right in guessing that EU region is somewhat easier than when it is set to Japan.

IIRC each region is different when it comes to both rank and extend rate...I think the ST has more details.

Could somebody shed some light on this ! :o

It just looks like it's cosmetic. The ship colours in Eschatos don't seem to affect how they perform.

Can someone tell me what are the differences between the Arcade and PC Engine versions of the original R-Type?

I heard the PC Engine version has extras or something. So, is it better than the Arcade one or inferior?

Is there any difference (esp. content wise) in getting the Ginga Force / Eschatos Wonder Pack, or both games separately?

Either options seems to cost the same.

I used to do that when playing NES Baseball Stars in 1990 or SNES NBA Showdown or something in 1994; I would never do it with a shmup though: the sound/music is an integral part of the experience, IMO. Plus, STG soundtracks are generally good and many are even great and quite listenable on an mp3 player.

It's fine, really. Most of the best shmups also have really good ost's, but I don't really think of the music as something connected to the experience: it's just a representation on who they were lucky enough to luck into hiring to compose. Sure, it's supposed to fit, but you could find lots of stuff that fits yourself. That's just me though.

I find shmups harder if I don't listen to the game's audio. I find I actually use audio cues from the game to remind myself what's coming next or where I should be heading. Lots of games have cues for timings and stuff too.

I find some shmups easier with the sound off, or when I listen to different music. For me this seems to be particularly true for some of the older Cave games. I'd never mute Crimzon Clover, though. ;)

Asking for a buddy, are the EU PS2 Psikyo ports all comparable to the JPN counterparts? I remember hearing that certain ports were fine, while others had issues. Maybe I’m making this up...

Specifically looking for opinions on the EU Dragon Blaze port (which is a hell of a lot cheaper than the JPN double pack with sol-divide).

Thanks in advance!

The EU Dragon Blaze port (the one published by 505 Game Street) is fine.

50/60Hz select on start and tate mode available.

It's not true 240p but looks almost like it is.

Sound however is a bit muffled and there's a bit of reverb on the musics for some reason...

PS: note it's a CD game, some PS2s (like mine) have trouble reading CDs.

Need help remembering a game (everyone's favorite challenge!). I believe it came out for the 3ds, maybe Japan only. Vertically scrolling STG with a dashing/slicing mechanic where you could dissemble enemies for more points. Relatively new (within the past year, I think).

Thanks!

It's actually a DSiWare game, though it plays on 3DS.

What are the replay files generated by Warning Forever supposed to contain specifically? Even though stage replay is set to off, every time I finish a session there are 2-3 overwritten replay files named "last", and "boss0#", and I'm not really sure what they're replays of exactly (I'm guessing last is a complete replay of the last session, but I'm clueless about the boss0# files...)

Hey Peeps, it's been a while...

I've just come across this folder on my pc: stgc09_part_1
I remember listening to these tunes on my phone...
Question: Was there a part 2 for this?
PS: After 5 years it still sounds pretty good, would love to hear some new tunes, you guys have talent

Funny you should mention that album; I just downloaded it 2 days ago! Haven't given it a listen yet though. To answer your question, there is a second part: http://world-of-arcades.net/stgc09/

Here's one for the shmup glossary perhaps?

Don't know if it'd qualify for an official entry, but I've definitely been there, heh.
