NES graphic glitches
I picked up an NES from a theft store and brought it home. at first it wasn't working, then I cleaned the 72 pins in the nes. It started to work but has this big line going down the screen that makes (in the line) all the graphics glitch. I DID disable the lockout chip.

Did you try boiling the 72 pin connector? I was sceptical at first but did it a few days ago and its working great. Make sure all the games are clean up as well.

When the lockout chip is disabled, you won't get a blinking light, just corrupted graphics (if any at all) when a good connection isn't made. Like what he said, give it and your carts a good clean and perhaps another once over with the pin alignment. Should be okay. These NES's are built like tanks.

I cleaned my 72 pin connector with windex and a tooth brush. Do I boil it in water on stove and that's it?tacoboy42 wrote:Did you try boiling the 72 pin connector? I was sceptical at first but did it a few days ago and its working great. Make sure all the games are clean up as well.

Basically, yes. Try not to let it rest on the bottom of the pot though unless you've made a very slow boil.mehguy wrote:I cleaned my 72 pin connector with windex and a tooth brush. I've heard that you have to boil it then jam in the cart 10 times again, then put it back in. do you have to do this?Einzelherz wrote:Basically, yes. Re: NES graphic glitches
That would probably help to scrape off some of the tougher dirt. I'd wait and see if someone has personally done that first though.

If you keep your carts clean you shouldn't have to do that.mehguy wrote: I've heard that you have to boil it then jam in the cart 10 times again, then put it back in. do you have to do this?

I thought you had to do that so you could bend the pins to the correct size.ApolloBoy wrote:If you keep your carts clean you shouldn't have to do that.mehguy wrote: I've heard that you have to boil it then jam in the cart 10 times again, then put it back in. do you have to do this?

The pins don't need to be bent, I fixed an original connector just by boiling it and it still works fine.mehguy wrote:I thought you had to do that so you could bend the pins to the correct size.ApolloBoy wrote:If you keep your carts clean you shouldn't have to do that.mehguy wrote: I've heard that you have to boil it then jam in the cart 10 times again, then put it back in. do you have to do this?

Re: NES graphic glitches
I boiled it for like 5-8 min total, I did take a cart i don't care about and jammed it in a few times mid way through boiling it, flipped it around a couple of times during the boil since i was afraid it might melt. then after i could see where it lifted up some junk off the pins so I scraped it out best I could with a knife before reinstalling it all after it dried. most games now work first time putting them in, a few I have to back out a bit before pushing them down (most likely just the games) but it works 95% better than it did before.

I should also mention that I add a bit of dishwashing soap when I boil connectors, it helps a little in removing dirt and grime from the connectors.

The boiling worked Good thing I didn't pay 30 bucks to get it fixed.
