Joining the chorus of people who hope this a stepping stone to a pc release of Raiden IV.

Raiden III is pretty decent.
You should get it here, instead of Steam, though:

They should have ported raiden DX.

Re: Raiden III is on Steam now. Sure, whatever.
Raiden 3 is just intrinsically mediocre. It's not terrible by any stretch, but it's just not that interesting. Got bored of it within 5 credits after buying the PS2 release a little while back. This is compared to the time I discovered Raiden 2 a year or so back at Flipper McCoys (arcade on the Virginia beachfront) and ended up pumping at least 40 credits into it.

Re: Raiden III is on Steam now. Sure, whatever.
Except the emulation still isn't right. A real port would be better, though that already exists and is great.Furry Fox Jet Pilot wrote:I really hope you were jokingmehguy wrote:They should have ported raiden DX.![]()

Giving the 1,2,DX an RFA treatment would be great.

What about it still isn't right? That's a pretty damn good sign that there are still issues. The protection still isn't fully understood, it's only working because of a good number of hacks. Hacks that could very very well be wrong, since comparison of full games against a real PCB rarely seems to be something MAMEdev cares about when working on drivers.

That, and wouldn't you want to pay a little more money to own an official port of a great game on pc?

Not that I disagree with the nature of the HLE but rtw and O.Galibert did go through the trouble of comparing against the INH superplays for the visual side of things. If the proof exists rather than speculation something's still out of whack I'm sure a report with an INP or something would go a long way towards progressing in this department.trap15 wrote:That's a pretty damn good sign that there are still issues. From page 1 of this thread:

Danny wrote:Game seems fine, enjoyed it back in the day despite the ship being on the little on the slow side.
That said there is no TATE or proper resolution options in this port. You can run the thing windowed and upscale the game in the in-game options. I am currently running it on a 1080p monitor, windowed mode at x1.5 graphics setting. Other than that I have not noticed any slow down and the game has all the modes that the PS2 version had which for the record was fairly barebones compared to shmups of today.
Never been called a boob before, also, I'm was quoting the possible port of Raiden IV. Please read properly before passing judgement of othersbsidwell wrote:III already has TATE you boobemphatic wrote: TATE or bust.

Re: Raiden III is on Steam now. Sure, whatever.
The only thing I notice *is* missing is the Score Trial option, not sure what that one was about anyway.
Clearly Danny didn't use the config exe included with the game to run fullscreen mode, thus why the x0.5/x1/x1.5/x2 upscaler is present and not the TATE functions. I bought the GOG.com version about half an hour ago, fired it fullscreen and all of the TATE options with the original version were there.
Remember this port was made in like 2004 or around there, bit sad for the brats spoiled by the quality of something made 10 years later like Crimzon Clover World Ignition to find this "bad" because it isn't HD enough. Steam owners should be happy to have this in their collection right alongside it, the smart people should go with the GOG.com version to show that we want our games without DRM. Raiden II's Seibu COP was essentially hardware DRM and I'd like to think we've evolved from that kind of nonsense with its successors.

As per the Steam forums, Raiden III only has a tate option if you play it full screen. Windowed mode does not have it.

Near as I can tell, the only reason people hated Raiden III was its lack of the toothpaste homing laser, which would have ruined its fast-kill scoring system.
Are there other reasons?

I always giggle in the space level, when you shoot apart the pillars and they "fall" off the screen. In outer space.
/nitpick
But yeah, I never had a problem with this game back when I played it in the PS2 days. Perhaps people will hoping for another DX level of depth?

I don't understand how that would ruin it. The toothpaste is the weakest weapon in II/DX.Mischief Maker wrote:Near as I can tell, the only reason people hated Raiden III was its lack of the toothpaste homing laser, which would have ruined its fast-kill scoring system.

I thought Raiden III had the toothpaste laser?
Re: Raiden III is on Steam now. Sure, whatever.
There is a toothpaste laser, yes, but it does not lock on as in Raiden II. Instead it just flows through things in whatever direction you are flying. So it's not easy to concentrate damage on one target with it, especially if you are dodging bullets.

Re: Raiden III is on Steam now. Sure, whatever.
I believe it's called the "Proton" laser. And it's even weaker than the purple laser of II/DX.
Re: Raiden III is on Steam now. Sure, whatever.
I didn't believe it at first, but apparently it actually is true that the Steam version is crippled with Steam CEG, forcing you to start up Steam in order to run the game? And both it and the GOG release came out at nearly the exact same time? That's kind of baffling that they would make that mistake.
Think you could edit the topic to add the GOG release, OP?

The only Raiden game devoid of screen wobble - good riddance if you ask me, but one YouTube dude didn't seem to like it.
"Outer space" is not someplace where gravitation stops working. In fact, satellites continue to fall (just never hit the ground; such is their angle of falling). That's how Earth goes around the Sun.Jeneki wrote:I always giggle in the space level, when you shoot apart the pillars and they "fall" off the screen. In outer space.

Awesome, never got a chance to play this (or IV!) so I'll definitely pick up at some point. Even if it's not the most glorious game in the world I did use to covet the PS2 version so I welcome this opportunity.
