Re: Interesting News Regarding a Certain Seibu Kaihatsu Shmu
if you're not fussed about it being MAMEPlus / a UI build then I've posted some binaries of the latest code
http://mamedev.emulab.it/haze/2014/09/17/ume-0-154ex3/
there are UME binaries as well as traditional MAME/MESS ones
these are as official as you're going to get until there is a proper 0.155 release.
(I added Save State support to the driver right before I compiled them as a bonus)

Re: Interesting News Regarding a Certain Seibu Kaihatsu Shmu
These dirty little bastard tanks are ruining my life. Nothing like surviving a wave of hell only to suddenly get popped from the side by a sneaky little tank. I played the shit out of this on the PSX version...don't remember it being this difficult.
I'm always blown away by how incredible the graphical details are in this game. Just watching how things explode and destroy the environment is the best part of this game. Can't believe I just played it in MAME!

For some reason only Raiden DX works for me, not Raiden II. I assume I need a newer romset? Also, where can I find a complete list of all the Raiden 2/DX romset names that have been dumped so far?

My guess is mamedev wants to get R2 and RDX as close to perfect as possible before releasing .155.Magma Dragoon wrote:Will .155 come out anytime soon?
Re: Interesting News Regarding a Certain Seibu Kaihatsu Shmu
And looking at the git revision logs there are a lot of fixes being made, particularly on the somewhat different r2dx_v33 rom set.Master O wrote:My guess is mamedev wants to get R2 and RDX as close to perfect as possible before releasing .155.

In that case, we can assume it will still take a while, probably coming at end year in the best of hypothesis.

it'll be out when it's out, Raiden II etc. have no influence on the release schedule

Throughout the game, holding start raises guts over time. I don't think it raises it that quickly, but it definitely does it.

Thanks, now that these classics are emulated, maybe we can find all the secrets that Seibu put in.trap15 wrote:Throughout the game, holding start raises guts over time. I don't think it raises it that quickly, but it definitely does it.

I'm very familiar with Raiden II/DX, the level layouts are engraved in my brain, what secrets are you interested in? Aside from the obvious hidden targets of coursertw wrote:Thanks, now that these classics are emulated, maybe we can find all the secrets that Seibu put in.

Any secrets for R2 which are not documented in DragonKnight Zero's FAQ for Raiden IIFurry Fox Jet Pilot wrote:I'm very familiar with Raiden II/DX, the level layouts are engraved in my brain, what secrets are you interested in? I end up doing this almost every time I pay attention to mame again
I never keep it up though, so my diffs inevitably drift out of usefulness. I think the latest I can produce a diff for right now is 0.148

Re: Raiden 2 and Raiden DX Will Be Fully Playable in Mame 1.
So something curious I noticed while playing the MAME version of Raiden II:

PS port and MAME respectively.
Apparently it's possible to fit between those shots in the PS version but it's impossible in the MAME version.
Now I don't know if the PS port had inaccuracies or if the MAME version still has weird problems, but the PS version having a smaller hitbox seems like a weird thing to change.
If anyone with a PCB can confirm if it's possible or not to fit between those shots we can maybe figure out this weird mystery.

Re: Raiden 2 and Raiden DX Will Be Fully Playable in Mame 1.
hitboxes and the movement / placement of pretty much everything is done by the protection, so it wouldn't surprise me..
ignoring the awful sound the raiden 2 new (and new raiden dx) sets are likely to be more accurate to hardware, they only have angle protections (hitboxes are done in game code) and we're using the protection lookup rom.

EDIT:
Incidentally, it doesn't seem like Mame actually supports the Japan version for Raiden DX.
There are like a million versions for like Germany, Holland and Korea but not Japan.

There's a 'raiden dx new' set or are you thinking about the HK set 2 ?IseeThings wrote:new raiden dx

The r2dx_v33 setXyga wrote:There's a 'raiden dx new' set or are you thinking about the HK set 2 ?IseeThings wrote:new raiden dx
Raiden 2 New / Raiden DX is a 2-in-1 board, although the procedure to swap between games is not possible with a regular joystick (you need to boot the PCB with all 4 directions pressed at the same time, and either button 1 or button 2)
For the purpose of MAME we split it into 'r2dx_v33' and 'rd2dx_v33_r2'
Note, you'll need a newer build than the last UME ex3 build I posted to run those tho, as the work to make them function was done more recently. (I'll probably upload an ex4 build in the next few days)
The Raiden DX on this board doesn't actually show 'new' but has some colours replaced with Gold.
http://mamedev.emulab.it/haze/2014/09/20/gold-label/
It has very, very crappy sound, sub-bootleg quality.
To address the other post (already it's already been mentioned earlier in the thread) no, Raiden DX Japan isn't dumped, nor is Raiden 2 2000, which (based on Zero Team 2000) is presumably the same crappy board as Raiden 2 New but with the correct stage order.

Oh I've missed that, thanks for the explanation.

Well, for Raiden 2 there aren't really that many secrets, it's fairly straightforward. As for saucykobold's guide, it's pretty much spot on, but there might be a few smaller technical details that could be explained.rtw wrote:Any secrets for R2 which are not documented in DragonKnight Zero's FAQ for Raiden IIFurry Fox Jet Pilot wrote:I'm very familiar with Raiden II/DX, the level layouts are engraved in my brain, what secrets are you interested in? These odd new variants really intrigue me. I assume that the drivers for those are atill being worked on for an upcoming revision of MAME, right? Also according to saucykobold, there is also a version of Raiden 2 that was released before the common 1993 version. This version was easier, had no miclus appearances, and had different enemy placements. Is this just the "easy" version?IseeThings wrote:The r2dx_v33 setXyga wrote:There's a 'raiden dx new' set or are you thinking about the HK set 2 ?IseeThings wrote:new raiden dx

That just sounds like the Easy set yes, which is weird in it's own right, because even when the region is seemingly Japan (or Korea) it doesn't display the 'USE IN JAPAN ONLY' text.Furry Fox Jet Pilot wrote: These odd new variants really intrigue me. If you're curious to just how bad the 'New' versions are I've posted an update.
