Raiden III is on Steam now. Sure, whatever.

$9.99 (10% off right now), looks to be the same old PC port that's existed forever.

Publisher is H2 Interacive Co Ltd., seems like they mostly specialise in Korean localisations of AAA titles, never heard of 'em until now.

(EDIT: oh wait, it came to Nesica recently, right? Hmm, maybe it's that version. What the hell do I know?)

(EDIT EDIT: if it is the Nesica version, they did a terrible fucking job.)

Wasn't a fan of the game on ps2 (that slow move speed...) but maybe worth another shot.

 This is the worst Raiden game in the series, but it has only 2 music tracks out of the entire soundtrack that are good, one of which is amazing. The Stage 1 and Stage 3 music tracks are the only good ones worth listening to, with Stage 3 being one of the best Raiden music tracks ever made. The rest of the music is mediocre techno crap that belongs in Raiden Fighters Jet's awful soundtrack.

Is there DRM?
Of course, that's just an opinion.

Steam is DRM. There is no additional DRM though. I can confirm it's exactly the same as the Japanese version and still the worst Raiden game. I hope they can bring the shikigami series over though.

I snagged it, I enjoy the game still, even if it's not the best in the series

If this list is up-to-date: http://steam.wikia.com/wiki/List_of_DRM-free_games, then yes, you need steam to run the game.

The Nesica version of Raiden III is no different to the original afaik, it's Raiden IV for NESiCAxLive that's had changes.

To be honest, I had no idea there were games that you can run without the Steam client before Teufel_in_Blau's post.

Breaking news: neckbeards who don't hesitate to spend $2000 on a PCB + an arcade cabinet refuse to play a computer game that has to launch the Steam client first.

Game seems fine, enjoyed it back in the day despite the ship being on the little on the slow side.

That said there is no TATE or proper resolution options in this port. You can run the thing windowed and upscale the game in the in-game options. I am currently running it on a 1080p monitor, windowed mode at x1.5 graphics setting. Other than that I have not noticed any slow down and the game has all the modes that the PS2 version had which for the record was fairly barebones compared to shmups of today.

It even requires an internet connection to purchase the game. Where has this world come to?

So I get that its the worst of the Raiden series but is it that bad that you shouldn't buy it?

So I buy it online, then bring it onto the train/plane/boat/etc that can't provide Internet connection without costing my left nut.
If Steam, I can play depending whether the publisher is a dick who demands to be online for a game without online features.
If DRM-free, I can play, period.
