Where the Darius Love at?
Re: Where the Darius Love at?
I'm under the impression DBACEX port is just a matter of time, just be patient.
It did well in the arcade, I even found one in Phuket, Thailand, so Taito are just waiting for a good time to plug it into their release schedule.

Re: Where the Darius Love at?
I'm skeptical; DBACEX is three years old and they haven't said a peep about a possible port. Unless one of the console makers approaches them for an exclusive, I think our chances of a working HDD rip are better.
Re: Where the Darius Love at?
But the game has been doing well in arcades. After AC came EX, and EX has had numerous revisions by online update. Basically it's been three years and the game is still making money. When it dries up perhaps then they'll consider the port. I see no reason not to bring it to console.CStarFlare wrote:I'm skeptical; DBACEX is three years old and they haven't said a peep about a possible port. Could an improved next-gen release be a possibility?
Re: Where the Darius Love at?
Sure I think so. The window on the PS3 hasn't closed yet though. It's still got a massive installed user base.Cagar wrote:Could an improved next-gen release be a possibility?
Playing PSP Burst again yesterday I'm surprised to remember how great the difference is between it and the arcade. In some respects PSP can be trickier because of less screen real estate and that the Burst meter depletes faster and seems less prone to refills on select bullet spreads.

Darius on a next-gen would seriously sway towards the purchase of one or the other. But it would have to be the latest version. Anything less (or just vanilla) would be a slap in the face.Skykid wrote:I'm under the impression DBACEX port is just a matter of time, just be patient.

If anything I'd expect some sort of XBLA/PSN release to maximize profitability.

Re: Where the Darius Love at?
That would never happen I don't think. The amount of content that's been added to both AC and EX over the years is staggering: far too much to pack into a single disc. Chronicle mode has had so many missions added to it it's at planetary proportions. Also I'd vote for PS4 because I want stable online multiplayer. One of Burst arcade's greatest features is having four players combining burst cannon strategies and working to liberate Chronicle mode's many galaxies by defeating missions.EmperorIng wrote:Darius on a next-gen would seriously sway towards the purchase of one or the other. Given that the Taito brand hasn't amounted to much of anything since Square-Enix acquired them (well, in more recent years), I'm not holding my breath on this one.Skykid wrote:It did well in the arcade, I even found one in Phuket, Thailand, so Taito are just waiting for a good time to plug it into their release schedule.

Re: Where the Darius Love at?
Japan have had the Playstation TV for a while now and the international release will be in october, maybe there will be some sort of a better DariusBurst game for it, because you can play Dariusburst on the new PSTV but it is outdated, so they might do a chronicle approach and also the way that the PS TV only supports HDMI which is mostly widescreens but, multiplayer will never become a thing, they never taken such approach before, It will only be based on Controllers

I'm not too up on Chronicle mode (or any of the other content that's been added to) - what does it consist of/add to the game? Sounds really interesting since you make it sound like it's good content.Skykid wrote:0That would never happen I don't think. Re: Where the Darius Love at?
Chronicle is made up of star systems, like clusters of stages. Once all have been beaten the cabinet recognises the system as cleared. Taito have added a ton via online updates.
Each stage is a total remix of existing stages, rearranging layouts etc. They all have requirements: some are just impossibly difficult, boss rushes, or require you to finish them on one life or using a specific ship type. Some actually require multiplayer iirc, so clearing the whole cabinet becomes a community endeavour. It's kind of wonderful imo.

Chronicle Mode would lend itself well to networked console gaming. If only they could find a way to actually port the game to a console in its widescreen entirety.Skykid wrote:Chronicle is made up of star systems, like clusters of stages. I've never the latest Darius and I already think its going to be my favorite shmup of all time, if and when it gets released, by just reading what it features

Re: Where the Darius Love at?
Is there any difference in the console ports of these games that make them worth playing?
What about Darius R on GBA, any good?
Might as well ask, are the Darius games on SNES/SFC original games? Are they worth trying?

Re: Where the Darius Love at?
All of the console versions of the first Darius are quite different from the Arcade original. Different bosses, 4:3 screen size, different powerup placement. I'd say they are worth playing yeah, but the Arcade version is best.
Darius II has a port on Saturn that attempts to be arcade perfect, but it isn't. It's not different enough to seek out when you can just play the superior MAME version. However Super Darius II for PCE is a drastically different game, more like Darius 2.5, with different music, bosses and stage layout. I would highly recommend it.
Darius R is garbage imo, because it is zoomed way too far in with scrolling that prevents you from seeing what's shooting at you, and also makes the boss fights way harder than they should be because the screen is too cramped. Avoid it.
SFC games are totally original yeah. They aren't really spectacular, but if you like Darius you will enjoy them. Force is superior to Twin imo, because Twin has a lot of really sloppy points and ridiculously abusable safe point all over the place.

In Twin, it a normal enemy doesn't fire a shot at you until halfway through the game. It feels very unfinished.

In Super Nova Minibosses are Repositioned and there is extra Killable objects depended on what you set your gamemode to, as easy-normal-hardDifference between Darius Force and Super Nova?

ACSeraph can you give me some more details about the Darius II Saturn port problems? I thought that was meant to be the best one. How does it compare to them MD ver (which I quite enjoy).

Re: Where the Darius Love at?
He described his gripes with this port in this post and the biggest problem is a broken enemy laser hitbox that ruins strategies that work in the arcade version.

Re: Where the Darius Love at?
^Yeah that post pretty much sums up the problem, and it's more significant than you would think. Darius II is a pretty hard game with very strict strategies; stage L is rendered nearly impossible by the glitch and I can pass it easily every time at the arcade. Those enemies aren't relegated to just that stage either, they are all over the place late game. Basically it's Darius II with a broken stage here and there.
It has other minor differences, specifically the Midbosses are all quite a bit easier, and while many of the nukes are fake in the arcade version, all of them will explode in Saturn making the stages easier. So it's easier, except when it's broken and impossible. It certainly won't teach you to clear the arcade version, and it's not fun for a serious player.
As for MD Darius II, it's one of the very few I've never actually played because I have no access to an MD at the moment. I've heard though that it is a completely different game from Darius II AC, with different stage layouts, boss attacks, and a generally lower level of difficulty.
Darius II is available on PS2 via one of the Taito Memories compilations, and though I haven't played it I would wager it's a straight emulation of the arcade version. Maybe go for that instead.

Re: Where the Darius Love at?
Huh, that's a surprise. I was drawn toward the Sat port for its apparent full screen arcade option, but I had no idea the game was actually broken. Great info, thanks.

Re: Where the Darius Love at?
I was a bit surprised by it myself actually. You wouldn't be able to tell just looking at it without a good amount of experience with the arcade game, I'm guessing most players just assumed it was a frustrating bullshit 80's game and that's how it always was. I actually learned the game mostly by watching Japanese players at Hey!, so the flaws were pretty glaring when I got around to learning the Saturn version. SAT port is probly good enough for most people, but shmups forum isn't "most people".

Re: Where the Darius Love at?
Played a bit of Darius Plus last night and really enjoyed it. Autofire, obviously.
In terms of difficulty, how does the arcade version compare? Plus is a fun challenge without seeming like an uphill battle but I worry that the arcade version would leave me very angry. (Edit: checkpoints? fffff)
Also, is there a list of those hidden grey balls or an explanation of how their value is determined?

Re: Where the Darius Love at?
Gray balls in Darius are random; no way around it.
I've read various conflicting theories of Gaiden's Gray Medals, but for all intents and purposes, those are random too.
It's a big oversight, honestly, when two players can have a score difference of 256,000 by the end of stage 1, despite playing exactly the same.

Re: Where the Darius Love at?
I don't know if there's a legitimate trick in one of the other games, but Darius Gaiden's point medals are most definitely random. It's a real shame too; I think it's otherwise a very enjoyable game to play for score. In a given playthrough they can contribute from almost nothing to more than half a million points to your score if you're really lucky.
Of course, that's just an opinion.
