Psikyo classics on Google Play

Post by Necronom »

Two lovely Psikyo classics have recently landed on the Google Play Store - Strikers 1945 II and Sengoku Ace Episode II (under the name of Tengai).
Seeing that they're f2p I feared the worst...but these releases are actually quite good!
Ports themselves are pretty solid and touch controls are responsive (played on a Nexus 4). I spent some time with Strikers and imo it controls better than Raiden Legacy.
I know a lot of f2p games that got ruined by greedy iaps but these are definitely NOT among them. You pay for credits/continues with an in game currency. There's even the option to buy ai controlled second player for backup...and additional confusion  All in all, it feels rather balanced and fair to me so far.
Would like to know what the hardcore people here think about it. I know there are lots of people like me looking for a quick shmup fix on the go

The Tengai port is also on iOS.

But the Strikers 1945 port isn't on iOS (yet?)

Do the Android Tengai and Strikers 1945 ports have any input latency?

Will definitely check this out when I get my iphone 6 in a few weeks; nice to know that there are still companies willing to do free to play in a reasonable way.

The smartphone ports of Tengai by mobirix reduce the bullet velocity by a LOT (I haven't gone beyond 2-1, so maybe it only becomes ultra fast in loop 3 or never?). There's still the same NUMBER of bullets, but you won't need to put in anywhere near that level of memo.

Tengai plays really well on iPhone and iPad. Very enjoyable. Highly recommended. Just started playing it today.

Just spent and hour with strickers, it is by far the best "free" shmup I've played. Multiprayer is good as well, beating Koreans is fun.

I gave the iOS Tengai port a try. It controls quite nicely. There are pop up ads when you've finished a game that are quite annoying, but at least there are no ads while you play.

I wonder how fair the scoring is, you can buy the 2nd player AI, and I hope you don't have to do that for a proper score.

If you have no data when you play, no ads appear at all.

Would that really improve your score? Wouldn't he steal points?

Play it in airplane mode. That eliminates the ads.

They really should give me all these 2k golds I'm collecting.

It's a bit disappointing that the game is much easier than the arcade version. I wish there was some kind of 2-loop arcade mode.

I remember Strikers 1945 Plus being on iOS a long time ago, I downloaded it on a jail broken iPod touch, but I can't find it anywhere on the App Store anymore, must've been removed a while back.

First loop is easy mode, second loop is normal, 3rd loop is hard, 4th loop haven't accessed yet but probably very hard for strickers 1945II

Ouch my thumb. :)

New PB on Sengoku Blade/Tengei iOS today:
-No miss until 1-6
-First loop left with Lx1 Bx0
-Game overed in 2-3

Has anyone reached the third loop in this game?

Once I earn enough rubies to buy a plane, should I get the Ki84 Hayate?

Lots of people like the flying pancake but the homing side weapons are weaker.

In other words, what the best ship?

Whoa, Strikers has multiplayer! And I didn't notice any latency at all. Can't believe we're getting good shmup ports on mobile after the death of Cave.

iOS Tengai is fun, although I play it vertically because I find the touch control easier to use that way. Different twist on the game that way! The in app purchase scheme is a little annoying, but since the game is free I don't mind.

I agree. It's one of the best horizontal shmups on iOS even if you play it vertically.

Yeah, controls are supersmooth on my Nexus 4 too and multiplayer is a lot of fun since it's just a score chase over one randomly chosen level - short but sweet!
Single player mode got much more rewarding with the latest update. Strikers pretty much my favourite android shmup so far, highly recommended :D
Hope they port Dragon Blaze next...

Plays well on my Motorola G phone. Shame that you only get 1 loop on Normal difficulty and you gotta pay to get extra fighters and difficulty selection.
Game should auto reward you for your single-play efforts. I'm not paying over £30 to buy the all those bonus gems and coins ive collected just to pay extra fighters and play PRO Master difficulty.
Wouldn't mind seeing video replays of the top 10 highscores worldwide.
Cave need to jump in this mobile bandwagon.

When the game initially came out, you could loop 4 times but it got changed because it was too hard for noobs, I was in the top 10 when it was like that. Now, you get to challenge each loop and theres a multiplier on your score so its possible to credit feed without paying for gold coins. Now I'm 90th- ish because I haven't played much since they changed it, plus, my score is without continues.

The master difficulty was unlocked when they switched the system, at least for me. I think its because I got to the third loop on the previous system. Try beating the difficulty before it to see if it unlocks. As far as buying anything, don't.

I played master, got 6th and 7th stage several times, and got about 60 jewels doing so. If you can do that 7 times, you can get a better ship and dominate the game. I've cleared master several times, its easy with Hayate.

Strikers 1945-2 is even easier now with the recent update, making it less of a challenge for 1CC clearance but more for high score.
Anyone know if Tengai will get an update and why is Stage 41 Master level is a blank screen? No enemy ships just your character shooting into blank space.

What the hell???!!! I open Strikers 1945 3 and all my save data is gone! I update the game and it's still gone. I even tried loading but it says no data found. Did anyone else experience this? Update: I just checked Strikers 2 and the same damn thing, my data is all gone

Dunno about that unless you had earlier version of the game before the update.

These are nice ports but the bullets are so slow. If I beat it will the higher difficulties unlock? Or will I have to save up gems for that?

The art really seems to pop on my Moto G. It's been a while since I fired any of Psikyo's games up and I'd forgotten how beautiful some of them are.
