Does it even matter? Every STG that was released on the PS3 sold like shit despite the much larger install base. In all likelihood, the people who are willing to buy these games are probably willing to buy whatever console they get released on. Nobody else cares (unless they're a 99 cent app).

Agreed. As enlightening as the forum's armchair financial advice is, I doubt many here are privy to the specifics of MOSS' finances and the trade off they would be making to go with the PS4. MOSS know that their core audience is going to buy whatever system the game is released on, the lack of region locking means that the game is going to be available to fans everywhere, and they can sell the game for full price instead of making it a $10 download. Surely they received some cash from Microsoft to develop the game, which lowers their financial exposure and risk compared to developing for PS4, and if developing the game for the less popular platform means they survive to make another game and prevents them from crashing and burning, then I'm all for it.

Financial advice? It's about limiting your exposure to the hardcore of the hardcore in Japan, which, no matter how you look at it is not a good thing for the genre. Unless you don't like Japanese shmups and would like for them to disappear completely. In that case this strategy is sound.

Anyway, this is MOSS we are talking about, and contrary to some prior speculation Microsoft is NOT the publisher of Raiden V. So chances are it will show up on PS4 after whatever exclusivity deal is in place expires (if there is one).

Raiden 4 overkill ended up being a thing, so I doubt Raiden 5 will stay put on the Xbone. Of course it might take awhile, but PS4 owners will probably get it eventually. I really hope that given the abysmal sales of the Xbone in Japan and the far more dev friendly PS4 architecture (compared to the PS3's esoteric Cell processor) STG's won't end up being a mostly Xbone exclusive thing; I've bought a PS4 already, and I have no plans to buy a Xbone.
People have been saying M2 will be supporting the PS4, which I would like to believe, but the rumors about them absorbing most of Cave's staff are unconfirmed, and M2 hasn't said anything about supporting one console over the other; people are just inferring PS4 support from Hiroshi Iuchi's upcoming PS4 exclusive.

There is obviously an editing problem with the trailer - it clearly was meant to be for the Japanese PS3/PSN. (Emulation problems notwithstanding) All the games depicted can be played on a Japanese launch PS3 (all Japanese PS3s if you exclude Raiden III (PS2) which for some reason doesn't seem to be available on the Japanese PSN as a PS2 Classic (for PS3) download) and some of the titles are available as a PSN download right now.

My guess is that it's still in very very early stages(concepting) and the only reason they are announcing it now is because the xbone had the worst console launch ever in Japan and they need every bit of help they can get to gain some traction.

on the other hand, maybe moss is thinking "oh, we can also get some money from localization", as raiden is still somewhat marketable in the states and way too many people have an xbone. or at least, i recall iii and iv being moderate successes. dunno about overkill though, and i don't really know how the localization process works especially not for "small" games and companies like this.

there is no magical quality that somehow makes iii worse, and there is no place for "innovation" in any discussion about raiden. raiden iii is considered the low point of the series through sheer randomness/lying

Or it is just boring compared Raiden II and Raiden IV. Both of those games feel far better-paced.

I have a 60 percent feeling you won't be needing the d-pad this time around. I'm a bit more than halfway convinced this Raiden game will be very similar to Ace Combat or Starfox, based on things that I've been hearing.

i'll be honest: i have never been able to play iv. it's a shame, yes. never have had a 360, never have had a copy of the game. i've seen videos, if that matters.

but i have played iii, and i'm obviously familiar with the earlier games. i'm also not blind or stupid, even though tons of people will swear that i am. i know for a fact that the kind of nonsense being claimed here is nonsense, and raiden iii simply does not deserve to be "criticized" with such imaginary complaints.
