Hideki Kamiya's Video Games (in-house arcade)

Post by Some-Mist »

figured you guys would be pretty pumped to see a video IGN did on Hideki Kamiya's (resident evil 2, bayonetta, devil may cry, viewtiful joe, okami) game room (PCB library and cabs/monitors) seeing as he's into a very similar hobby as a lot of us :)

it's a heavy influence that he uses/used in game development.

Fun video. Loved that the first game showcased was The Ninja Warriors (and final was Darius). Mad respect for the three-tv setup. Also surprising to hear him voice his distaste for horror, and call RE2 more of an action game than a horror game (when comparing the two RE games side-by-side, you can definitely see it).

It's worth nothing how much inspiration he feels he gets from the golden-age of arcade games (80s). Good taste.

I actually wonder how many shmups he has and what his total pcb count is. he cites gradius as a huge influence growing up... and he has twinbee playing on one of his blast citys in the back ground.

can't tell what one of the other cabs is in the far back (at 1:53), and I know it isn't... but it almost looks like a pony

I loved his story about when he was playing Gradius as kid and searched the entire house for a ¥50 coin, just to cycle to the game center, die at the Moai stage again, and then go home again. Can definitely relate to that from my own childhood.

This was great. I'm not crazy about his games (Resi 2 has all my love) but I am crazy about his old-school collecting habits and influences. Awesome watch, best thing I've seen IGN produce in the entirety of their shameful existence.

that's the wonderful 101 (directed by kamiya) on the Wii U. it's basically an action/hack-n-slash game in which you use a stylus to make different weapons to counter different enemies. it sort of looks like pikman because you're controlling a crazy amount of characters at once, but they all act as 1 character.

it's actually a lot of fun once you learn how the system works (which for me was about halfway through the game unfortunately haha)

Somehow, I don't feel as disturbed as I used to looking at my PCB collection after watching this video.

I always pictured his set up being way bigger and more fancy. He still has one of those little Japanese homes.

I was expecting something more like "Cribs".

Loved this guy ever since DMC1 and other fine work, even moreso after this vid. Enviable pad.
