I just don't get it. The annoying fights like the bouncy room can be cleared quickly with a couple Serious Bombs. Otherwise the graphics are superior, the flamethrower and sniper rifle fill major gaps in your arsenal, the new monsters are fun and challenging. So why does everything but the Babylon stages feel like a chore?
I'm talking about the originals, not the HD versions.

Why isn't Serious Sam Second Encounter better?
Two working class dudes, one black one white, just baked a tray of ten cookies together.
An oligarch walks in and grabs nine cookies for himself.
Then he says to the white dude "Watch out for that black dude, he wants a piece of your cookie!"

Why is "the first person shooter game thread" dead in the water?

I don't get the SS games... On paper the elements should make it amazing, it's fast, frantic, overwhelming... All the things I like in shmups but it always fell flat for me for some reason.

There's a place you come to early in The Second Encounter called the valley of the jaguar. It's wide and open, yet with terrain variation, so there are several ways you can choose to tackle the huge horde waiting for you. Reminded me of the rockslide megabattle you can manipulate into occurring in the original Halo.
I don't think the rest of the game lived up to that fight's promise. A lot of the time, you'll be in corridors and rooms not much different from every other FPS. And when you do fight large enemy groups, it's on completely flat and boring land. The most interesting thing about the last non-boss map is the skybox.

I agree, that valley of the jaguar fight is really fun. It gives you options, lets you think about how to handle the fights. And the fights are giant, the distance is far, and it feels great.
Making a run 'n' gun with a transforming grappling hook: ChainStaff. Also made a shmup with multi-ships: Shoot 1UP DX, and more .

Is that the level with the Mayan-ish pyramids? If so, then yeah, that was quite fun.
