Ghosts and Goblins Arcade ver. on Wii VC, pretty accurate?

Post by BazookaBen »

So I have it on Capcom Classics Collection for PS2, but it looks really bad because it's scaled to 480i. Even when scaling it back down to 240p with GS Mode Selector, it's far from perfect, definitely not 1:1.

So I'm looking into getting the version on Wii Virtual Console, since ports of console games are usually pretty good. I've never played an arcade port though. Can anyone speak to the quality of the port for GnG?

Get the Capcom Arcade Cabinet version on PS3/360, best port of the game by far. M2 handled all those ports, and they have elaborate screen settings with optional scanlines. You can buy the games separately if you just want Makaimura, but you can save $10 if you decide to buy them all at once. They're all accessible through a single menu.

Like the other CAC games, it has an extra mode that lets you fiddle with some settings to make it easier, like making hit detection more forgiving or having pots randomly drop armor.

M2 did some of the SEGA VC Arcade games with 240p support, but I don't know who did the Capcom VC Arcade games. Capcom Arcade Cabinet on 360 is good stuff, though.

Everything on Virtual Console is emulated, not ported.

I know, but M2 is good with both. I'm not sure who did the Capcom emulation, though.

Have you tried Capcom Generations 2: Chronicles of Arthur on Ps1 or Saturn? both are excellent.

Isn't Chō Makaimura more accurate on PSX since the Saturn can't do SNES resolution?

Damnit. Dropped $8 in the Wii Shop on it and it's basically identical to the PS2 release. No 240p support, bad pixel scaling unless you get the vertical and horizontal stretch settings just right.

The sound seems a little better though, and the controls might be slightly more responsive.

Anyway, it seems the saturn or PS1 release is the way to go if you want proper 240p support.

Well after doing a little side by side, the Wii VC version has superior video to the PS2 version. If you set H and V size to 100, you can see it "snap" into a 1:1 pixel mode. I can't get it to do that in the PS2 version, made especially difficult by the fact that it doesn't give you numbers for the H and V size.

The audio on the Wii seems more crisp as well. Really sounds like an arcade sound chip. Makes me wonder if the PS1/Saturn versions sound as good.
