There was also one about quit smoking or something. But it's gone now. What gives? Are these jerks getting banned on the spot or what?

My guess is that they're spambots that fail to get past the verification system (which is there for the purpose of preventing these from getting through.

I think they get deleted whenever an admin notices them. It's a pity that someone stoops so low as to spam through the most recent signup display. I wonder if turning it off would help anything.

It'd certainly cut down on the spam's visibility. But I wonder if the spammers are actually visiting the sites to see if the most recent display is actually active before spamming away...
