That's especially good news for anyone who likes Yosai Kotetsu Strahl. Strahl's music and sound as they are currently emulated in Mame right now sound atrocious.

I've done more writing in the past week than I think I've done in the ten years preceding it. If someone wants to make a thread, go ahead, I'm gonna put down the keyboard for now :)

Times are good, first Raiden 2 & DX now nmk004 :D

Been playing R2 for the past 3 days, finally beat the first mission. It starts over again at level 1 at the end of level 8. This one is so brutally hard compared to other shooters. I love it, though I doubt I'd ever be able to finish 2 loops of the game. :|

For anyone who missed the update, the sprite glitching up got fixed some days ago and the third button added to Raiden DX. Blending, shadow layer and prematurely disappearing crater/purple laser issues still remaining. There was also some subtle fixes to a few issues in the other games in the driver but not nearly enough to mark them working yet.

I don't know how anyone clears Raiden 1 and 2. For me almost any other game comes way easier than this. I don't think I've ever made it past the stage 4 boss. Except for 2 players, then this game seems totally doable. Still a ton of fun though. Awesome that it's finally playable in mame. What'd be really cool is if someone figured out how the highscores may or may not have worked before "suicide" and our boards could be revived with score saving.

You are aware that there is an easy version and a hard version of R2 ? I do not know the exact ROM set but here are my notes from way back.

According to DragonKnight Zero's excellent Raiden 2 FAQ.

The different versions may be identified by the high score screen. The easy version has the Raiden MK-II in colour on a black background whereas the hard version has a sepia shot of an ascending fighter.

The 'Easy' versions aren't just easier, they have slightly different stage layout / enemy placement... they're marked as such in the driver anyway.

I thought the easy versions ran on different hardware, but I guess that must be the "new" version. I'll have to try that out although I don't feel good about solving my poor raiden skills with an easy version.

The 'New' and '2000' versions run on a different board (with revised protection) if anybody has the '2000' version of Raiden 2 I would appreciate them getting it dumped. Those are the ones with inferior sound hardware.

Nothing has really been done for the emulation of the 'New' versions yet.

The 'Easy' versions run on a regular R2 board. In addition to lower difficulty and the different high score background some enemy placement differs

What does "Glass Roof" mean?
MAMEDEV are currently comparing the official INH Raiden/Raiden 2 and Raiden DX superplay against MAME. They find things which should be transparant, blended and fix it.

Now would be a good time to come forth with your excellent slow play replays of high quality so it can be made perfect :D

There must be someone here with a top-notch graphics capture system, a Raiden II/DX PCB and the ability to coin-feed and record...

Was up to 2AM on the Bannister Shoutbox picking out the last of the blend-related stuff, providing there's nothing left missed with the blending I'll see about trying to get a MAME Plus build compiled soon to play r2 with autofire and DX with faster autofire. :D

Ok, yuifan updated MAME Plus himself so I just downloaded from his SVN and compiled the builds. Come get your MAME Plus/UI with Raiden II/DX and NMK sound support and the best custom autofire around for it here! :P

Not sure how lucky I am, but Raiden II was very common where I live. It was in bowling alleys, fish 'n' chip shops, arcades... definitely one of my favourites growing up.

And now it's finally free.
