What cord do I need?

Post by Drachen Zor »

One of my older Pvms "pvm-2530" doesn't have any sync Bnc's. It has all the Rgb bnc's just no sync bnc.... It does have a 25 pin sync on green connection but I can't find a suitable cable & don't know if this type of connection will support RGB? I'm wanting to connect it to the vga port on my computer via the Arcadevga graphics card.

Then a VGA to scart cable.

Is the 25pin connection on the back of pvm called scart?

I don't have any sources that use scart so why would I need a cable with scart.... I need 15pin vga to 25 pin right?

Something like this right?

The thing is you need a female connector for the monitor, and ideally a female VGA connector at the other end. I think if you added a Female-to-Female VGA coupler to that most recent cable you posted it should be fine, but it's possible the wiring doesn't match the monitor's, since I don't know how close it is to the standard.

Why would I want two female ends on the cord? The vga port on the computer is female & the pvm is male... so wouldn't I want male vga to female 25 pin ? lol Im frigging confused...I really don't want to buy a million different cords, can't someone just point me to the proper cord so can buy it?!?! haha

I'm giving you the only option available that wont require you to solder your own cable. That monitor has RGB only on that connector, and its a Sony specific pin out - check the manual.

There is no premade single cable VGA to that connector anywhere, either you or someone else would need to make it. If you don't want to make it, you'll need to do what I said originally.

so where does it become vga ? Do I need to then convert scart to vga ?..... On the cord u posted I saw no way to connect it to my comp only saw 25pin connector.

You need the one I posted, THEN a VGA to SCART to connect to it ;)

Actually you might need to mod a cable anyway, as the monitor requires composite sync on that connector if its like my 1371.

This is what my service manual said:

1.SYNC ON GREEN select switch
When an RGB input is CMPTR
connector, set this switch to:
ON to synchronize with the sync signal on G-signal
OFF to synchronize with H./V. sync signal or composite
sync signal.

So what does that mean I need?

Sorry about that one, you're right, I thought you were connecting consoles to it, not a graphics card's output.

Of course, other comments about pinouts still apply, I don't know enough to comment on the DIP switch settings.

Oddly enough, we already have a thread with some information

To answer your question directly though, you will most likely have to find the proprietary Sony cable for this, unless you're going to build your own. No combination of adapters is going to magically give you the correct pinout.
