I could see it being used if it was just a basic watch with a few additions like weather and such, but as usual, they have to turn it into an all-purpose touch screen device.

Has anyone made a phone in the shape of a pocket watch?

I expect royalties.

I thought that this was extremely cool, until I heard that it requires a phone.

Yeah like the legendary Seiko TV watch, only wireless.

For some reason I still find that piece of retro awesomeness more desirable than the Apple Wotch.

Yeah that one at least is a real phone, but you still need a BT headset to actually make calls.

I'm reading that it has speakerphone capabilities. Not that I ever plan on walking around like Dick Tracy, which is why I'll never want one.

I would like one of these for the health/exercise potential. Otherwise, I see watches in magazines and I've really liked a couple over the past few years. Most were fucking awesome and way out of my price range. I bought one and returned it b/c it was so huge.

I don't really see the point in watches from a practical perspective, but the old person in me still digs watches.

Edit: My initial response to the iPad was LOL, but I came around eventually and it's my best investment.

The best use for a smartwatch that is never talked about is disposable notifications. Since the watch lets you optionally view stuff in under a second, it allows you to follow feeds with a lower probability for good information in a way that doesn't inconvenience.

I think the bio-feedback uses will be important as well. The watch has a human interface that the phone is lacking.

Typically, the brightness is turned up to 200%.

People are diagnosed with hand injuries from using their phones too much, wait until a generation will mess up their shoulders from tilting their watch arm up to their face every few seconds.

As if exercise never existed until the advent of personal electronics. Or, this will somehow motivate people who never exercised, to suddenly exercise? I guess it's an opportunity to be seen in a public gym with a flashy new gadget...

That said though, surely this will carve out a niche for itself, like my tablet. I use it daily, although I should add it hardly ever leaves my bathroom except to be charged :p

It's unlikely that I'd wear it out of the house, nor do I exercise of out the house, but I'm one that is motivated by best my personal times/calories/whatever when doing cardio. It would be fun to track some of that without scratching it on paper while I'm all sweaty. Thanks for the insult though.

It was only meant to be a half-insult, so for that I half-apologize :P

You have given reasonable justification and I also like to record my times when running a fixed distance, on paper as you have been doing. I do wonder though whether that convenience is going to be worth several hundred dollars. Maybe it is for you, I will be fine with an ordinary stopwatch and scribbling on paper.

Aren't there devices that do that already without being tethered to a phone? Or does the 350-dollar watch do something they don't?

There's a shit-ton of excellent sports/fitness watches around, some like the Garmin and TomTom/Nike with integrated GPS, heart rate monitor, etc.
No need for a phone.

It will be a hit, just like the ipad.
Wait, can I leave my iphone at home and just leave home with this watch? Will it sync all my stuffs through iCloud?
If I park close enough to the office, can I leave my iphone in the car?
I'm waiting for the iRing, you don't even need to turn your wrist!
Or how about the ishoes, you only need to look down.

Might be cool if I was into the built in exercise apps but I don't think I would want to workout with a big watch on anyways. At first I thought it looked pretty sweet then I could not figure out what I would actually use it for or how it would be easier if I still need to use a phone with it. Could see it just being a status symbol thing for some folks.
