Ok, so if you asked most shmup fans to put these 4 games in order of easiest to hardest, this it what you'd usually get

Thunder Force III > Thunder Force V > Thunder Force IV > Darius Gaiden
(Easy) (Quite easy) (Quite Hard) (Relentless)

For me, the order is this:

Darius Gaiden >>>>>> Thunder Force IV >>>>>>>>Thunder Force V >>>>>> Thunder Force III

I've almost beaten Darius Gaiden entirely, with or without autofire, and I have no doubt I will, soon.

I've beaten most of the stages of Thunder Force IV, but struggle at the last few.

I can barely beat Stage 3 of Thunder Force V

In Thunder force 3 I KEEP FUCKIN DYING SHIT KEEPS COMING OUT OF NOWHERE CANT EVEN GET TO THE BOSS OF THE SECOND STAGE

Let me handle this, I speak jive and have a doctorate in "Why doesn't TFIII suck?"

TFIII can seem a lot harder than it ultimately is when you're just starting out, as that guy suggested he was. Most stages have at least a few nasty traps (Gorgon and Hades are loaded with them), and with the big hitbox, fast pace and often tight spaces it's easy to get killed, thrown back into the fray minus powerups and immediately killed again. If you were to hack in Gradius-style checkpoints it'd suddenly become quite a bitch. Take your lumps, learn the stages and soon enough the massive firepower will start smoothing things out, of course.

I've noticed more than a couple posters here dismayed by the game's misleading "EASEH AS FCK" rep upon picking it up themselves and finding resistance. A shame as the game's charm is that it's not a Sunday drive. It's a Sunday drive through biomechanical hell in a laseriffic deathchariot with great choons in the tape deck.

TLDR: TFIII will kill you until you know where all the cheap shots are.

I've been playing the shit out of all these games recently, although by far I've played Thunder Force III the least. At !east I have the difficulty of that can explained, but what about the other 3?
