Online games. Lonely frightened young people no longer had to leave their room to have "friends". How brilliant is that! At least they tried before, some of them even challenged the stars and made it to the next chapter of their lives, becoming human beings. Since then the allure of combining gaming with a bizarro version of real life absent of shame and accountability has tainted this hobby forever. Shmups are too solitary I suppose? Why play with yourself when you can play with your imaginary friend. You can compare your achievements with other people, people like yourself who are created in their own perverted image, who fit any description an imagination could conjure. People became gods, and worshiped themselves. I think I read somewhere that that was a sin.
