(list of composers is in the link)

Not as bad as I was expecting, but when you're making a documentary about such an incredibly niche subject, you'd think they might be more inclined to cover more than the "surface" layer - more than just the widely known composers.

No Noriyuki Iwadare? Fail.
Re: "a documentary series about Japanese video game music"
I think you all are being a bit too harsh.
I mean, I grew up playing these games—and I make music myself—and I didn't know anyone's name here short of Nobuo Uematsu. I'm certain a lot of people are in the same boat. Sure, they probably don't cover everyone worthy of it, but you can bet this series will introduce a lot of people to composers they never would've known of otherwise. Keep in mind that this was produced by Red Bull Music Academy—this is aimed at music nerds, not game geeks. Lighten up.

Re: "a documentary series about Japanese video game music"
Holy shit, are you guys kidding me? Every composer here is top notch. We've been needing something like this. They even got the composer for Gimmick!, who pretty much only did that one game's OST.
Yes, it probably won't have it all (or even close to all), but it's a damn nice start. And if it gets a lot of viewers, maybe more things like this will get made in the future?
Anyway, watch part 1...this is pretty damn impressive. Thanks for the link!!!

yeah this documentary is awesome! i'm all for it. let's all join hands together and make it popular and maybe the other japanese music composers that you wish were covered will see this documentary series and join in too on future episodes.

I don't know if I'm just too stupid but I cannot for the life of me find the actual episode, just trailers

CHECKPOINT!
Re: "a documentary series about Japanese video game music"
So far so good. I hope they would talk about Yellow Magic Orchestra and their influence in VGM (because they were).

I'm sure if YMO influenced some composers, they will probably talk about it in their interview. For example, I'm pretty sure Shinji Hosoe will talk about them as he's said in several interviews that YMO is his biggest influence (not to mention his parody band Oriental Magnetic Yellow (OMY)) lolDomino wrote:So far so good. Now for those who don't know too much well lets just say the following:
From 1980 below:

Many moons later:

And just look at this famous album:

Ok I'll stop now. I'm just such a fan of YMO it isn't funny.

I love the series and what it sets out to do... BUT they swung and they missed with that second episode: Castlevania 8-bit music music should have gotten much more coverage than it did. It’s arguably the most iconic/important VGM out there.
P.S. That bit with the guy from some 80s J-rock band also sent mixed messages, almost as if the series' director was looking for some kind of validation: "Look! a real musician from a real band accepted to score (an obscure) videogame!". Missed opportunity IMO.

Scroll down for the list of interviewees. Good to see names on there like Martin Galway, Graeme Norgate, Hisayoshi Ogura, and Dave Wise, to name but a few.
