Do you still subscribe to or buy PAPER magazines?
In this day and age of ebooks and tablet reading, I'm curious if anyone here still subscribes or buys old school paper magazines?
I do.
I have a few business and travel oriented mags that I receive (Ie: Money, Kiplingers and Travel & Leisure).
Stopped buying and reading gaming mags ages ago though.
It's probably just me, but I can't stand reading ebooks and mags on a tablet. Just doesn't feel as immersive to me for some reason.
I still remember the simpler times when we waited each month for the latest issue of EGM, Gamepro or whatever for the latest gaming news. Even better were the mags that included a monthly demo disc or something. Such a thrill!

Yeah, the business that I work at sells those monthly periodical magazine on the magazine rack section.
I have to admit, there's something about picking up a real paper-based magazine and reading page by page at your leisure.
At my local Barnes & Noble bookstore, they have a huge selection of magazines to leaf though, including speciality video game magazines (and some imported from the UK as well).
At least with a paper-based magazine, you can go back to it months/years later.

Books I can do in a digital format (if I must), but for magazines, I accept no substitutions. I flip through many each month, but the ones I more or less consistently get now are WaxPoetics for music and Monocle for travel/design/architecture/misc. stuff happening in the world.

Yes. If I hadn't done so much moving in the past, I'd still have my collection of EGM/GamePro/GameFan issues.PC Engine Fan X! wrote:At least with a paper-based magazine, you can go back to it months/years later.

I'd like to but I just can't bring myself to justify the space they take up. Threw away almost all my magazines years ago and try my best to avoid buying them now.

I until recently sub'd EVO and Retro Gamer.
I live in a small apartment and recently had to give my coveted EVO collection to a young car enthusiast friend to make room. I hate reading on an iPad and still love turning real, paper pages. I find I just don't have the time to read a mag or a book all the way thru anymore. When I do have time, I'd rather play a shmup or RPG or something.

Yes, though only Zymurgy which is the best American homebrewers magazine.

I only seem to buy magazines at airports or bus stations these days.

I would if there was anything in them of interest to me. But that's very rare nowadays.
Books and graphic novels like Six Gun Gorilla and The Manhattan Projects - yes.

i get wired and a few architectural subs in print. an article/magazine that relies heavily on photography to convey it's meaning should be read in print (vs a tablet or phone).

Definitely true.PAPER/ARTILLERY wrote:I only seem to buy magazines at airports...
I travel a lot for work. It's great stopping by an airport gift shop and picking up a mag or two for a long flight.
