I don't support either side of the argument since both sides are disgusting..and can care less who designs my games or how men/women/different demographics are portrayed in videogames, but it's kind of sad that this is the only big "gaming" news of the moment. not really a conspiracy theorist either, but it's funny how stuff like this blows up in the limelight (news sites like BBC and forbes covering it, celebrities and politicians getting involved, etc..) in spite of more recent disturbing news regarding ISIS and Obama having no idea how to handle the situation.

anyway, it's about a feminist supporter that slept with someone in the industry for good press. then she got caught "harassing" herself to tried and push the issue further. not sure it's 100% accurate, but that's what people are all up in arms about.

I'm still missing a scandal here.

how? it's not every day that you hear about someone in the industry sleeping with journalists for good publicity. I'm not really even sure what male would be able to pull that off... but then again, the concept is really no different than the big name publishers/developers sending free swag and games to reviewers.

the only thing I find hilarious is how other no-name developers are saying that "it's sad that such a talented developer is leaving the industry". not exactly sure she qualifies as a talented developer in my eyes, but my opinion doesn't really matter either.

something happens, followed by negative feedback, a few dumbasses take it too far and send death threats, the game press defends itself and the people involved by focusing on the few threats and putting the blame on the whole community while avoiding anything else and everyone gets mad

it happened with Anita, it happened with Tameem Antoniades and DmC, it happened with Phil Fish and now it happened again(and I bet this won't be the last time)

Basically, Quinn is a scapegoat for this whole scandal in the same way the Internet jumped on the "fuck Phil Fish" bandwagon: Fish represented everything people hated about indie culture, so he was targeted and fucked over. Quinn represents corruption of game journalism in addition to SJWs so she was targeted. Quinn is not responsible for corrupting the industry (it already was corrupt) and she is not the first of the obnoxious hypocritical SJWs; she simply was the most well known when it came to those two topics, so everybody focused on her. Gender plays into this, sure, but the fact she's a girl isn't the main reason she was made a scapegoat.

I think the shitstorm arose because she had a persona of someone who represented the opposite of what she turns out to be IRL. She'd marketed herself in such a way that she became a huge hypocrite. Also she's a girl in game circles so that's going to attract some attention.

I don't go to gaming websites much anymore but I have been listening to a bunch of gaming podcasts for a few years now and the game honestly had very little buzz that I've heard. I recall maybe a couple of brief mentions, but no-one was really pushing the game much. As for money, well the game was given away free, so there wasn't much money involved either. So not much buzz + zero reviews on metacritic + free game doesn't exactly add up to some huge corruption scandal for me.

it's kinda funny that the writer promoting her game is also the one who ended up in a relationship with her as confirmed by stephen totilo. but as you can see, he claims the promotional articles occurred before the relationship.

But sleeping with people you work with is always discouraged in a professional environment. At my first corporate job I had a relationship with someone I was training despite knowing the general rule of thumb, and when I ended it, the situation turned out pretty horribly with me having to constantly cover my ass. mixing work and personal life can turn on you real quickly.

I know that this wasn't directed at me and I understand that you writing it more as a joke (I hope) but... everybody is welcome! I don't care if you are black or white, latino or asian, women, man, transvestite or a sandworm from the dune novels, if you like to develop, play or talk about video games, make yourself comfortable, grab a beer and have a good time.

This women is a terrible human being. But she or her sex life is not the problem. The problem is that in the recent years (I would say since the beginning of last gen), we have more and more of those people. I didn't know what a white knight or a social warrior was during the PS2 era or before. I know they existed before but they were a small and easily ignorable part. She is just the tip of an iceberg and she got unlucky to fit all those stereotypes many gaming sites visitors have about female developers. Which is sad, yes.

Who cares if the character design from some Atlus game has questionable character design? It is aimed at a specific audience and women can feel free to play this game and talk about it or not. I need to make a confession, I really like Sex and the City. I enjoyed the humor and I was following the show when it was airing in the TV. And the show was sexist as fuck. Man were shown as stupid idiots who were only good for some fucking here and there. But I didn't get angry. You know why? Because I knew and know that I am not part of the target audience and this show was just that, a show, entertainment.

Back on topic though, the whole Zoe Quinn thing is a backlash to Social Justice Warrior websites like Kotaku and all that. It seems absurd, but it's genuinely a bunch of pent up anger towards these journalists taking over the media of this hobby, and pushing their agenda, for the last few years.

Personally, if this helped get rid of half of that shit, this will be worth it.

I mean, we all know about these sites getting paid for high reviews. So, that's way more corruption than this. But I guess people got more sick of holier than thous pointing their finger at the primary audience of video games all this time.

If you look at the Internet Aristocrat's videos, he's obviously angry at SJWs. All his videos are about that, basically. And lots of people are. So, this little thing go blown up, just cause we smell blood. Sad, but that's how it goes.
