I did. I had to go back to my friends house (which he moved out of) and pick it up from the neighbors. I got it and sported the jump suit for all of a few hours. It was quite gentle on the package though, so it'll get a lot more play time next year.
It's actually quite amazing. One of the things Japan clearly excels at.As you discover how awful US postal service has become, I'm discovering just how amazing Japan's is.

Wait, I lost track of the package we're talking about now. Does this mean no "Scratchy Sensation at Burning Man" headline in my favorite funny news tabloid?GaijinPunch wrote:It was quite gentle on the package though, so it'll get a lot more play time next year.

Probably won't blog about it, but as you can tell from the pic above it could have gone either way. Was a little worried but it all worked out!

Only got like one of it on fire... had a bad vantage point. It was crowded. I got a few of it before hand, but I made a point to try not to take pictures of only art this year. Wanted people interacting with it. As such, I got a pic of two guys kissing in front of embrace on the "embrace photo spot" and one of those guys a minute later doing a yoga hand stand of sorts. Pretty good. I won't develop them for a while though, as all of my development gear is in a container.rapoon wrote:you get any good pics of the sculptures? particularly "embrace" (on fire!!!)

what'd you think this year compared to previous experiences? has the festival evolved (devolved?) into a commercialized fuckfest? that's just me regurgitating some cynical shit i read online.GaijinPunch wrote:Only got like one of it on fire... had a bad vantage point. Re: USPS Horror -- how do I get my package?
Every year someone says it's being ruined by rich pricks and everything sucks. I find this pretty retarded. Obviously you enjoy other people at Burning Man (and things other people make) but the point of the event is to be yourself (and find out something new about yourself). Out of 60,000 people, a shitload of art cars, and a bunch of art installations, (and probably fistfuls of chemicals) you can find someone or something that can entertain you. I know I did.
Having said that, this year was way different than my last two for a few reasons. For starters, I was far more selective in taking photos. I took less than half of the previous year, but I'm hoping I have at least close to the same amount of keepers (which would be fine). Next, the bigger parties didn't grab me like they used to. Robot Heart is huge (literally and figuratively), but the music this year did not amaze me. The sets I heard were good, but there was "good" stuff everywhere. I went to some smaller places and had a blast though. I also saw Jamie Jones play in a very small (and towards the back) camp unannounced. The sound system was nothing compared to the other camps but the party itself was awesome.
For the most part, the people themselves (I found) were the same as usual. Approachable... nice... open. I walked around by myself much less than last year but still enough to connect with strangers. A small group of people I hung out with for 2 hours and had an absolute blast. Saw them a few times later and again, got to share experiences and whatnot.
To boot, I've had a ton of shit going on in my life. Definitely the most stressed I've ever been, and I've worked in one of the most nerve racking industries that doesn't open people up or shoot rockets into orbit. I'm also repatriating (or just did, actually). That stuff was definitely a distraction, but I was still able to have a blast.

Skykid needs to hear about this! (And every other prematurely-aged person ranting about the kids on their lawn too.) Anyway it does sound pretty cool. I like how, in this day and age, something can actually slide back under the radar a bit and not get overly commercialized or whatever.GaijinPunch wrote:Every year someone says it's being ruined by rich pricks and everything sucks.

It can't be commercialized b/c the event is decommodified. However, some camps are ridiculously "tricked out" where "the rich" are constantly one upping each other. One's burn is only as good as what one puts into it. If you go in and let other people style influence you, you're missing the point. In that case, I recommend investing in a cheap film camera and exploring. It's what I did.
