I'm not up to date on the goings on in the anime world (other than it's corporate beyond corporate) so figured I'd mention this project which was brought to my attention through a close friend's FB feed. Apparently I'm only separated from the producer by one person.
Under the Dog
A bit polished for my taste, and I'm unemployed so I can't really share any dollars, but it might be of interest to the lot here.

Kickstarter Anime: Under the Dog

Ah,
Was wondering if this was going to be brought up here sooner or later.
I pledged $60 (+ $15) a few days ago and I would kind of like to go to the next tier but $100 + $15 (shipping) is a bit too much for me.
This is probably the first anime on kickstarter that interests me enough, and I really quite enjoyed listening to them being on the ANNcast as well.
Under the Dog, on it's own, I think is only so-so interesting to me, but I like the idea of anime that is not yet another risk-free otaku-exploiting show or something too artsy and "indie".
It's basically an OVA now, and I love OVAs - so I guess what I really want is to support the ideas and thinking of the crew behind Under the Dog more than the OVA itself.
At any rate, it seems quite a lot more backers have joined so it might be possible to meet the goal.
I watched the first episode of ARISE and wasn't that thrilled to be honest.

I have no problem with GitS clones during a time where GitS doesn't seem to know what to do with itself...KAI wrote:Another GITS clone...

CHECKPOINT!
Re: Kickstarter Anime: Under the Dog
Can they really make a full length series like this on slightly less than $600K? I can easily see them coming back with a Paypal donation button or a second KS after meeting their goal, continually asking for more and more funding, like with Mighty No. 9.

They're making a 24m episode, not a full-length tv seriesPretas wrote:Can they really make a full length series like this on slightly less than $600K? Don't worry about it. You can travel from the Milky Way to Andromeda and back 1500 times before the sun explodes.

It's basically a crowd-funded pilot and it's a lot to ask of people for 24 minutes in return.
Re: Kickstarter Anime: Under the Dog
Should have made the pilot on their own money and the KS to fund a potential full series.
