Re: GI Joe PCB sound chip recap
There's a guy on KLOV who used to do them for $60 or something. It's a job I won't touch for money even if I lived there.

I'll need this done eventually also. I take it that they have to strip away the whole epoxy layer from the custom first? $60 sounds kind of cheap for that much work!

Well, it depends.Ed Oscuro wrote:I'll need this done eventually also. I take it that they have to strip away the whole epoxy layer from the custom first? $60 sounds kind of cheap for that much work!
If they've leaked under the potting compound it can come up quite easily, but then of course it means you had capjuice eating away at the tracks. If they've leaked over the top or not at all, then it's next to impossible to get off if applied thickly.
I hate Konami for this part.

So the process involves stripping away only the epoxy necessary to get at the caps? Sounds ugly but that's the price of entry for this board, it seems.system11 wrote:Well, it depends.Ed Oscuro wrote:I'll need this done eventually also. And yeah, I hate them for this part too. Just about as much as for my surely dead-by-now Darkstalkers board...

At least batteries in CPS2 can be replaced.Ed Oscuro wrote:So the process involves stripping away only the epoxy necessary to get at the caps?
