Need help with Crimzon Clover World Ignition Novice Boost
Need help with Crimzon Clover World Ignition Novice Boost
Right now my big hang-up in CCWI is getting through stage 3 Novice Boost without dying 2 or 3 times. The first half is cake, but for some reason the second half is totally insane for me. I would actually say it's harder than any other area in the game, including stage 4 and 5. It's not just that so much stuff is on the screen, but for some reason it feels a lot more random and difficult to predict. I've gotten through it all once or twice without dying but I couldn't help feeling that I had lucked out several times, which in my mind isn't good since what I want is consistency. Any help or advice would be strongly appreciated.

What shot type are you using? With C, I found if I played stage 3 by dashing back and forth across the screen, taking out enemies as soon as they popped up, I was able to keep the bullet density to a minimum.

Okay, so you're a complete beginner at this genre, that much is obvious. What you need to do are the following;
Practice the hell out of everything (you can access stages from the training menu, very convenient)
Watch plays done by players better than you
Practice more. Play some credits and win.
Specific for this game in particular and the mode you're playing. You get a lot of resources to play this with and the bullets aren't very fast, there aren't very many of them and they're often aimed at you. You can as such herd bullets by only moving incrementally along the bottom of the screen at a slow pace. Then as you get close to the far side of the screen you make a quick move towards that side and change direction to the one you were coming from. This will cause a gap in the bullets that should be more than wide enough to fit through.
It may sound a bit weird but when you learn how to do it it will be really intuitive.
Other than that, i guess you just need to buckle up, git gud, l2p and all that.

Yeah. I'm no expert at CC:WI, but I seem to remember that all stage 3 novice took for me was a little aggressive bullet herding. not even that aggressive, but somewhat aggressive. I was using Type II (probably), but I don't think it really matters. I'd definitely recommend watching a replay, if textual descriptions aren't quite doing it for you. I downloaded one that Blackbird posted a while back, but I can't seem to find it. However, you could maybe check the highscore thread for such things.Lilium wrote:You can as such herd bullets by only moving incrementally along the bottom of the screen at a slow pace. Ok, thanks for all the tips. I finally have gotten to the point where I feel a bit better about that part although it's still a bit tense. I think the biggest part that throws me off is all the kamikaze balls immediately after the mid boss. For some reason they distract me to the point where it's hard for me to clear the other, more threatening enemies in a timely fashion, leading to a screen full of stuff all over the place. I'm getting better at it though!
Anyways, after getting better at stage 3 I did manage to 1CC all the way to to Ex Boss 2. I was pretty hype since I beat Ex Boss 1 on my first try ever, only dying to him twice. I got Ex Boss 2 down below half as well, so maybe there's hope for me yet!
An, yes, as to your observation, I am very new to the genre. Just started in with Jamestown this past Monday and moved on to CC:WI at the advisement of members on this very board! Best advice I've had in awhile. Absolutely fantastic game, and extremely addictive.
Edit: This is with Type-I btw.

Good job getting that far. The clear is just around the corner. Good luck!

WHEW, finally did it and it feels great! Now I just have to beat Novice boost with the other 3 ship types and then it's on to Novice Original. This game is way more involved than I originally believed. I wouldn't have imagined that there could be so much depth in a game with only 5 levels. I still get thumped in stage 3 sometimes. It's never game ending per se but if I lose more than 2 lives there I just reset in order not to waste my time.
I can't even imagine how difficult Arcade mode is. The fact that what I'm playing now isn't even the real game is shocking to me, but it's exciting too. Hopefully with enough time and practice I'll be able to 1CC that as well.
Out of curiosity, how well do the overall skills you gain in a game like Crimzon Clover translate into other shmups? If I can eventually 1CC arcade mode on this, will I have an easier time getting into other games in the genre?

Re: Need help with Crimzon Clover World Ignition Novice Boos
I can't comment on skill transfer from Crimzon Clover (since a majority of what I use was from another game), but techniques such as herding bullets can easily translate into other games (such as Touhou and Shikigami no Shiro to name a few) since there are a lot of aimed bullets in Crimzon Clover. Also, you should have a general idea where to look on the screen to look out for bullets. Hand eye coordination is also pretty important since you generally don't want your gaze completely on your hitbox just so you can read and act accordingly to the other bullets. Other than that, you know the effort it takes to do a 1cc of a game. That should give you a good indicator the kind of effort needed to 1cc other games in the genre.

If you're a complete beginner, pretty much all the skills will transfer. The more you play the better.
