So what RGB mod do you use for your PC Engine

Post by CkRtech »

Hey all -

After some serious capacitor replacement work, I am planning on finally RGB-modding my Turbo Duo (Japanese) for RGB output. There seems to be no definitive "this is IT" version of an RGB amp for the system. I am considering the THS7314 mod (although I don't want to use composite video for sync), or alternatively using the 7374 mod so I can pull in composite sync.

I wanted to get an idea of what the shmups users are using, if you like it, if you would do the same amp again if you had to, and what display you use (PVM, xRGB, etc).

A bit of a poll if you will.

Thanks!

I've used the THS7314 in all the PCE/TG-16 RGB mods I've done and it's always worked great. Using composite video as sync shouldn't give you any issues either.

Excellent. Thank you.

So I am using a switch that isn't a fan of composite video, so I have to keep it happy and feed it C-Sync. I actually do have a spare LM1881 around here, but I just don't know...lol.

I use the good old Japanese IC amp, which I think has been simplified these days. Either way be sure you throw pots on your color lines, as red tends to come out a bit too strong for most people.

I've never had that issue with the THS7314, mainly because you're dealing with one chip as opposed to two with the NJM2267.
