If so, will it let you booth US Wii games in RGB?

I am sure you could put them in a booth if you wanted.

In all seriousness, I seem to remember my friend had to patch the images before they would boot. Then, if they had an update it could brick your console.

Really there's no point bothering with a chip any more, remove it and just softmod, far better.

I had a chipped Wii before.

Softmodding is a much much much better solution. I removed the chip in the end.

Can a PAL "softmodded" Wii play NTSC US games?

Yes.

There's so much great software available.

Yeah I know I have both a US and PAL Wii, problem is my Wii games are all US but I want RGB and the only way to get that is through a PAL Wii with the Scart cable (which I also have), whats the easiest way to achieve that? (I am guessing there many different ways and types of "softmodding"?)

By the way my PAL Wii is 4.3e if that is important.

I have a PAL Wii that's chipped with wiikey and soft modded too.

Why remove the chip? It's handy as it boots gamecube backups straight, US gamecube games work in RGB or 480p, I haven't tried US wii backups though.

You can play most ntsc games by using wiibrickblocker which removes all updates and region checks. Works on most games.

My opinion: modchipping a Wii is a waste of resources. The best way to play Gamecube and games is from USB via softmodding.

Only problem is that you'll need a legit copy for streaming audio games (there's very few worth bothering with) for the initial copy protection check (once, the first time you start the game, then you can play the backup and keep the legit disc somewhere safe).

Only real reason I hear for hardware mods today is really "it's easier". It doesn't offer much practical advantages outside of that.

Console region (for region locking games) and video output settings (for what signals are sent out and what software defaults to) are separate settings on a Wii and both easy to alter via softmodding. That said I haven't tried outputting RGB SCART on a NTSC title (GC or Wii), but I'm pretty sure it would work.

There is less compatibility using the softmod method to play GameCube games isn't there?

Sure I saw a compatibility list for it.

Audio streaming games are impossible to play on a modded Wii without a legit disc, but that's a very short list of games especially when you rule out the ones you aren't interested in.

Those audio streaming games can still be backed up and played from USB but you need the legit disc for an initial copy protection check.

There's no way to play them from burned DVDs without a modchip. I don't think it matters since IMO anyone using discs is just a short demonstration away from switching to something better.

I don't think it's just the audio streaming games, here's the list I saw before

http://wiki.gbatemp.net/wiki/Gamecube_B ... ility_List

It might be redundant now as I haven't kept up with the Wii scene, I just know it wasn't perfect.

Well, three things:

1: That list is severely outdated.

2: As I said, I don't think anyone should be playing games from discs. It's slow, noisy and results in wear and tear on the disc drive. For playing from USB there's three compatibility lists to look at: DIOS MIOS, Nintendont and Devolution (Devolution being the one with copy protection, but also supports audio streaming games). If all those fail then you can start thinking about using a disc and going by the compatibility list you posted.

3: Sure compatibility is not perfect, but if it plays the games you want does it really matter? I never get people planning for compatibility issues they haven't run into yet and maybe never will. You can handle those compatibility issues when you run into them, maybe install a chip then. For most people, it will never be required (I haven't run into a single problematic title).
