Zun's twitter : I will be offering downloadable versions of my games in keeping up with current times. First up will be Touhou Double Dealing Character (aka Touhou 14). Even if it's a small thing, if it can help promote games by small-scale developers, it'll make the future more fun.

For the longest time I believed games like Touhou and Bunny must die were freeware games; I didn't realize they were actually commercial releases until I noticed that it was impossible to find them on sites that weren't obviously warez sites.
I really think that Zun screwed himself over by underestimating the western Doujin scene. In fact, he's probably still underestimating it: his tweet didn't say anything about the game being released on the international version of Playism.

Not only that but with so many Touhou clones and other great shmups hitting Steam (Ikaruga, Crimzon Clover) the exclusivity isn't there anymore. Now there's variety for shmups on PC, whereas before it was just Touhou.
