XRGB Mini framemeister Mega Drive problem

Post by dazzlerdaz »

Hi guys after looking around this seems to be the place which has the most knowledgeable about the XRGB series so wondered if someone out there might know what the problem is. Ok here goes, XRGB mini framemeister arrived in the post today. Tried it out with the SNES and PS1 which looks great but tried to use my Mega Drive 1 and no dice. I can get audio but for some reason no picture, it just stays on the blue screen. I can get picture on my CRT and straight into the HD TV itself but I can't get it through the XRGB. The cable is quality RGB one and has stereo sound through the headphone jack of the Mega Drive. Tried it with 2 Mega Drives, one which has a region switch and 60hz switch and one which is just standard. Also tried it with a number of games (Earthworm Jim, Dynamite Heady, Shining Force and a Jap copy of Ducktails) because I read somewhere that it won't display 480i Mega Drive games but surely these are not all 480i. The RGB cable is going into a Euro scart to mini-din with a synch stripper. Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be?
Thanks for your time!

a) adjust the sync level in the menu
b) check the ground connections, so all grounds connect from your RGB cable to the MiniDin adapter cable
c) remove the LM1881.

Tried steps 1 and 2 and still not working, I don't think I can really do step three as I'm a complete noob when it comes to soldering and the like. I got in contact with Faginrs via youtube and he reckoned it may be a problem with the MD scart cable, so going to buy a new one and give that a go. If that fails I'll try and pick up a MiniDin adapter which doesn't have the LM1881 installed.

Megadrive seems to have a variety of issues with the Meister. I had trouble with mine when bought the meister. I couldn´t solve them adjusting the sync level.

They got totally fixed when I bought the scart to framemeister cable with the lm1881. Rock solid picture since then.

Darren,
As already discussed via YT PM's (and for knowledge gathering within this forum), it's a strong possibility that your SCART RGB cable is not powering the sync clean circuit and thus causing your issue. Not all SCART cables provide power at the appropriate pin that your FM din cable is expecting. I use an externally powered sync cleaner set-up and have never had one problem with the MD, 50 or 60hz.

The easiest way to substantiate this theory is to crack open your MD SCART cable and see if you have anything wired to PIN 8. If you do, measure the voltage with a multimeter. Needs to be 5v+.

There is a caveat with the MD and 50hz to get a picture, but I'm sure you're aware of that.

I think I'm having the same issue. No image via the sync stripper on my MD.

I'm thinking of getting one without the sync stripper in - otherwise I guess I need to find a way to power it?
