Games for 1st Week: Famous Week

Blue Wish Resurrection Plus

Developed by x_x, this is considered the game beginners should begin with when exploring the mad realm which is Danmaku (Bullet Hell) shmups. With its simple scoring mechanic, well designed bullet patterns and perfect pacing, this game will make you come back to it again and again. And yes, the ships are all blue.

ChoRenSha68k

This is a classic. Very well known, very revered. Developed by Youichi Kochida, this shmup was initially developed for the sharp 68k, eventually making it across to windows 95. A solid shmup in every respect, great art, great tunes, tight gameplay. I dont really know what say about it that hasnt been said. If you havent played this already, what are you doing with your life???

Kaikan

Why is this in the Famous week? It should be, thats why. Made by zakichi, preached by emuser, this game is a beast. With its unique medalling, varied ships types, cinematic boss fights and past references thrown within, this feels more like a proper arcade game then a doujin freeware.

XOP Black Ultra
Image
Image
Made by one of our own, Udderdude. Initially released as commercial, now free to download. Solid shooter featuring gruesome art, and lots of bullets. And scanlines. Need i say more?

Uwabami Breakers

When you take some of the most well-known doujin developers in the business and add generous amounts of beer, it apparently results into this. The one and only game from The Drinking Party, featuring people from Team Shanghai Alice, D.N.A. Softwares, Platine Dispositif and more, this is probably the only shmup in existence with a beer gauge.

Votes will be private. All votes to be PM'd by team captains to nasty_wolverine & kennyman666
Vote format: team name - captain name - game
Discuss, raise HYPE!!! here.

And if someone can make us a tourney banner that will be great. Or I might have to pull out my terrible gimp skills.

question, how will the votes be counted;
will all players vote or just the captains?
if all players, will then teams with more players get more votes?

In past tournaments each team votes amongst its own members for its overall favorite, and the captains pass the teams' favorites on to the tourney organizers; whichever game has the most teams in favor of it is selected to be played. Basically each team gets one vote regardless of size. Presumably that's what they're doing here.
this is probably the only shmup in existence with a beer gauge.

What the hell does Gaiden stand for? Sorry, shmup newbie here. Doujin stands for "self published work" right?

One vote per team delivered by the captains. Yes, exactly as bulletmagnet said.

Gaiden means side story. Since the main STGT is always arcade games, this is a side tourney featuring doujins only.

I will now openly say that I vote for Kaikan.

There, I messed up the system, now everyone will vote Kaikan because THE CAPTAIN did it.

So I realized having voting while team registration isn't done yet might get stupid

So I think it might be a good idea to instate a quick rule patch that says teams with closed registration status can't vote unless they're actually good to go (that is, has at least three members). Alternatively, you can vote, but your votes won't actually be counted until your team's ready.

cross post from the registration thread:

COME ON PEOPLE, SIGNUP.

Also, i noticed that we are missing the heavyweights, the likes of emuser, jaimers, errpo, aquas, chumlum, etc (too many to name). Teams with still unfilled positions are encouraged to send them invites, incase they have missed this by chance, not just to the heavy weights, anyone you think who would participate, but have been too shy to. just dont be pushy, no one likes too be pushed.

We have around 30 participants till now. We would all like more (actually we would like everyone if possible).

So far I have received two votes from captains till now. Teams who are complete, or with atleast 3 members, the captains are requested to send in the votes.

CAPTAINS, VOTE UP.

Also,
@LordHypnos, @Eno, @Pteriforever confirm if you guys are still in, you guys didnt yet post a formal participation.

And just to note that, votes have to be PM'd to count - we've gotten two valid votes so far, and one of those people sent their PM only to nasty_wolverine. PM it to both of us so we can cross-check.

Posts in this thread intended to be votes will not be counted.

Just noticed you have to be signed up for the tournament in order to vote. Not sure how that makes sense, considering that if the game you want doesn't win, you might be screwed. I kinda want to compare this with if only politicians were allowed to vote in the elections.

I do not understand the counter point you are making Mr Satori... why would people not playing in the tournament have any interest in voting?

Will all weeks be voted btw? It's kinda fun to just have random games that we might not have heard of thrust upon us and have to figure them out ;)

I worded my post poorly. I'm not saying people who don't have interest would want to vote. I'm saying that handling team registration and voting at the same time is strange.

I feel like I need the psyduck emoticon for this post.

Anyway, it's how STGT voting has always worked. But, yes, having the voting thread go up before registration closed and having voting and registration cloe at the same time was... ill-advised. We'll make it work, future voting will be less stupid.

Team list in main thread updates after I've slept btw

Gotten six votes so far! Also given the current state of free agents/teams lacking members, I'm actually gonna call for the captains of even incomplete teams to start voting - we'll solve this thing.

Two hours left until voting ends. Still waiting on votes from Great Justice and Garegga Fathers, assuming Garegga Fathers is still in.

Assuming no more signups for the teams in the coming two hours, I've done the random shuffling of free agents into the incomplete teams, but nothing of that is final until registration ends.

So technically, voting closed an hour ago and so did team registration. But I can't actually close voting or teams yet.

'cause one of the teams I want to stuff a free agent into - Garegga Fathers - is not currently confirmed, and the vote is at a tie. Garegga Fathers and Great Justice still haven't sent any votes, and nasty_wolverine went to bed. I wanted to get this done before I went to bed, but at this rate, that's not happening.

Whelp.

Edit: You know what, periods have closed, I'm gonna post up information about rolled teams and what game will get played before I go to bed anyway

So, two of the games ended up in a 3-3 vote. Using the random number generator courtesy of random.org, I did a roll to decide which one of the two games in question would become the game for the first week.

The roll landed on 72, an even number. Which I had decided was the result of odd or even that meant the game for the first week would be none other than...

Kaikan! So depite Captain's refusal to PM in his vote for it, which would have solved it without needing me to roll a d100 to break the tie, it's what's going to be played.

The scoring thread for the week will be posted by nasty_wolverine when he wakes up. I hope.

Does anyone know what the conditions are to make the 1-up appear on stage 3? Sometimes it's there for me, sometimes it isn't...also, are there any others to watch for?

Emuser wrote:I'm not 100% sure about the stage 3 extend, but I do know that the stage 5 extend only appears when your item rank reaches a certain level, it can actually appear randomly on screen if you raise your rank enough when it wasn't there initially. Stage 5 extend is in the bottom right corner of the turret wall, I believe you need an A item rank for it to appear. Because of this I think that the extend on stage 3 is the same way, in that it won't appear unless you have a high enough item rank. It's really easy to lose the rank on that part too :<

EDIT: After some more testing, it appears to be required to destroy all of the black things that fly way right away at the stage 3 extend AND the helicopters that spawn once you are out of the water part. I suppose some helis would fly away when I was focusing on medals or something.

Other than stage 3 and 5 extends, 100M and every 200M after that.
Other than that, not really sure.
