We actually had at least 3 arcade sticks in use at the time this shot was taken (maybe even 4); people just preferred to use them on their laps, apparently. Most of our setups used sticks throughout the weekend.

It almost looks like the Dell U2412M, in which case it shouldn't have noticeable lag.

I probably should have used somewhat deeper focus for some of them, but this was actually a very intentional choice; I think that what is important about this event is that random people are playing shmups, not how they are doing or what game they are playing. Plus even out of focus it is very clear what they are doing.

Although I think this is probably just you giving me a hard time. :3

As far as the cosplayer issue is concerned: I actually would prefer it if you guys would remove that line of thought. It's not too inappropriate... yet... but I'd rather it not be directly associated with STG Weekly or this thread.

Opening post updated! Pictures of the crew (sans cuilanB and mdl, who unfortunately couldn't make it in time for the poster signing or the group photos on the last day) are now up.

Also included is a link to the first video clip I've released from the event-- the climax of the live demo, when I hit clear the first loop and freak out upon reaching the second.

Also, just a heads up that we will probably start the public order for STG Weekly T-shirts relatively soon now that we've had a chance to get our hands on the test batch and verify the print quality -- big thanks to EllertMichael for printing them for us and for giving us a quick enough turnaround that we were able to wear them for the convention!

Also also, we will be selling leftover posters from our Anime Expo event! Price hasn't yet been decided, but quantities are VERY limited-- there are exactly FOUR remaining. Each has been signed by the crew (again, sans cuilanB and mdl). They are professionally printed on 80lb matte finish cover stock in full color (blacks printed as CMYK rich blacks), and are 11x17 size. If you're interested in buying one, please PM me; higher-quality photos of the posters will be coming later today when I can get my camera out. Estimating a shipped price of $10-$15. If there is high interest I can have a second print run done, but those will not be signed.

Just saw the recap video. Regarding a few points that came up in the course of conversation:

I got into shmups partly from wanting to rediscover games like Raiden, which I had played as a kid, and partly because I saw TGA-RET's superplay video against the Mushi Ultra TLB. That moment when Aki floats down and hovers at the top of the screen intimidatingly while Levi-Sense plays, and then he starts shooting the most insane patterns... it kinda gave me chills watching it the first time. The final attack blew my mind, too. It was like a supernova of bullets, but somehow the player was surviving it, for a few seconds at least. Being a glutton for challenge, I felt like I had found a mighty enemy, a genre where the dragons still existed and I wanted to battle them once again.

It's also good that you are explaining the 1CC concept in your panel. I was surprised to hear that this concept is entirely foreign to most gamers, but then again, I hadn't heard of it either until I began frequenting this community. I think we need to spread the word on this philosophy. I've had several experiences now where I explained the concept to someone, and they immediately reported that playing shmups became much more exciting and enjoyable as a direct result.

Oh, I did plenty of cosplaying (even during the panel!), but photos of me are unfortunately absent. I guess I just kept finding myself in the wrong spots at the wrong times...
