Looking for great modders in the UK

Post by andykara2003 »

Hi,

Would anyone be able to help me find the best retro console modders here in the UK (region & RGB mods)?

I have several consoles to mod.

The only 2 companies I have come up with so far is Console Passion and Videogameperfection but I don't know their reputations.

I'm guessing there must also be respected and accomplished individuals on this forum who do great work.

Cheers :)

Raven games used to be good...check out their site,it has some info on what mods they do (used to do?) they don't really maintain and update their site anymore but their shop Is still going, you could give them call and enquire...

Well I'm hardly impartial in this but...

Raven Games - All their mod work was done by Gear for Games that you can get in touch with over on Retrocollect. Great modder, no complaints about any work he did for me, though he specialises in Gamegear now and was stumped by a 60hz MD mod I asked him to do.

Console Passion - Good quality work but some evidence that they swap motherboards without permission, e.g users sending in 60hz consoles for region free mods and getting a PAL motherboard back. They've probably stopped doing this now it's come to light that can actually have nasty side effects.

Us - I use a modder down in Wales called Raymond and I just handle all the customer service. So far we've had all happy customers bar two. One said his SNES smelt weird when he got it back (which is weird as nobody else said this) then there was one incident where Ray forgot to put some screws back in a console. We're sorting this for him at the moment and gave the guy a discount Dreamcast mod.

Stuff like case mods are what he likes doing least, e.g SNES slot widening we just dremel that out, ideally we'd have the facility to do it much neater but we just don't.

Thanks guys - much appreciated:)

I also wonder if there are any modders on this forum who have a reputation for high quality work?

I received my 1-chip PAL SNES console in the post today. It is pretty well 100% mint - no marks, yellowing etc. I'm really happy with it.

I opened it up (carefully!) and it is indeed the 1-chip variant (snes-cpu-1chip-02).

I had an email back from Raven games. They didn't know what a 1-chip SNES was! Thanks for your advice on Console Passion Bucko, I'll avoid them.

So I'll be sending my SNES to you guys either later today or tomorrow for the switchless SuperCIC mod Bucko. I went to quite a bit of trouble to find a mint PAL 1-chip so please be careful!

I'll let you know how it goes here - as soon as it's back I'll send you my N64 as well.

Cheers :)

P.S. Just to be sure, I don't want the slot widening, I've found a converter.

Awesome find :D

From what I've seen and read, the 1CHIP-02 doesn't have the vertical bar issue that is a problem on (all? many? some?) 1CHIP-01 consoles.
