J-PAC Dim monitor problem

Post by superpretendo »

Hello all, I have a bit of a problem with my current Egret 2 setup. I currently run an Xbox 360 through an Ultracade UVC (Hooled up to a Jamma edge connector made by FrancoB) that works perfectly. I purchased an J-PAC device in order to pass through control to the 360, but when I place the j-PAC onto the JAMMA connector, the picture on the monitor (Nanao MS9) goes very dim and flickers. Once I remove the I-Pac, the picture returns to normal. Has anyone experienced this problem before? Or does anyone know what may be causing this? Thanks guys!

Does your uvc adapter have a jamma passthough?
So:
Jpac->homemade uvc adapter->cab

If so it sounds like both are trying to drive the video. Could be current draw but I don't think the Jpac draws current from the jamma edge.

That's kind of what I thought, since that device is traditionally used for connecting VGA cards and not controls alone. Would there be a way I could just... cover the unused video pins on the card? Or sever the contacts?

I had the same exact issue. I solved it by taping the RGBS pins on the J-Pac with clear Scotch tape. The J-Pac sends out some kind of blanking signal when no video source connected, that interferes with the UVC.

Emphatic, this fixed the problem perfectly. Thanks so much for everyone's help and suggestions, much appreciated! I was worried i'd have to bust out the soldering iron and do a brand new padhack!
