Horrible prices on shmups.
Horrible prices on shmups.
Have you ever seen a really crappy price on shmup? I went to a flea market today, and saw a video game booth. I saw they had raiden 3 on ps2, I ask the guy how much. He says 90 DOLLARS. He breaks down on how he gets his price, "it's 80 dollars on ebay and 10 dollars shipping (this was in person mind you,)" I'm not even gonna bother with his crap prices. I look on ebay later today, and he's looking at the SEALED version of raiden 3. The raiden 3 he had wasn't even sealed -_- Who the hell charges shipping when there's NOTHING TO SHIP.
Re: Horrible prices on shmups.
You should have seen if he'd be willing to do $85, tell him you had to go to an ATM and never return.

Re: Horrible prices on shmups.
Lol. I found another booth with less selection but with AMAZING prices. I got kof orochi saga for ps2 SEALED for 10 bucks.chempop wrote:You should have seen if he'd be willing to do $85, tell him you had to go to an ATM and never return.
Re: Horrible prices on shmups.
Just because someone puts a game up for 80 dollars doesn't mean that it is going to sell for that much. People have gotten downright greedy over the last few years. The other day I saw some dude trying to flog some rather common SNES carts CIB, but shitty condition, for $450 each. I guess they hear of prices some games fetch, sometimes, when they are in pristine condition, and then think whatever they dug out from under the sofa has to be worth that much as well.mehguy wrote:I look on ebay later today, and he's looking at the SEALED version of raiden 3. Raiden DX, however is god-like, and I would easily fork over the equivalent of $300 USD to get it if i had to. That's a game worth the expensive price tag, unlike Raiden III.
Re: Horrible prices on shmups.
I was asking about his neo geo pocket colors. 100 bucks, with the system ONLY. Hell, i can find one for 50 bucks WITH games.Furry Fox Jet Pilot wrote:mehguy wrote:I saw they had raiden 3 on ps2, I ask the guy how much. Check out this link, though. http://nfgworld.com/mb/thread/443-Raide ... t-of-money

Yeah I know, I never said it was worth that much, I just said that was the ebay price he was looking at.Bonus! wrote:Just because someone puts a game up for 80 dollars doesn't mean that it is going to sell for that much. Re: Horrible prices on shmups.
ouch. 100 is too much for one loose. I saw a booth at too many games that had a modded NGPC with front light and Sonic Pocket Adventure for 60 dollars. The booth lowered the price to 50 on the last day of the convention.mehguy wrote: I was asking about his neo geo pocket colors. 100 bucks, with the system ONLY. Re: Horrible prices on shmups.
Yep, I agree. Prices can be outrageous. If someone is going to go by e-bay specs, at least go by "completed auctions".
Used in mint good shape, is still WAY different than a factory seal!
People are greedy, and they think that everything they are selling is worth its weight in gold.
This is off topic, but classic automobiles are the same.
You can see a 1970 Plymouth Barracuda all original low miles/restored/mint whatever going for 80 grand at a Las Vegas car auction. While some "nest-egg idiot" thinks his 'Cuda is worth 25 grand incomplete and rusted out completely in the back yard as it sits.
Back on topic...How much is Silvergun going for nowadays?
Neo-Geo Pulstar is pretty expensive as well!
How about Dracula X Rhondo of Blood!!?
Some things are really rare, while most others are simply overpriced.
Everyone wants to "get rich quick". Although, this in nothing new, and this thread is somewhat of a rant, I just needed to add in my two cents...but really, its worth $20.00 bucks!!! LOL Because its rare and still sealed, until I opened my mouth.
Ohh...and Spine Cards magically increase the value by at least $50.
To be honest, I always throw away (yea, trashed em) spine cards.
Save the original shrinkwrap, as its worth money!!! At least it won't end up floating in the ocean!!!
Yea, I'm joking here, but really I do toss out those spine cards. What worth do they really have anyway!?
Bottom Line...
Its only worth what someone is willing to pay.

Re: Horrible prices on shmups.
"Mint" used to mean that the game looks as if you just unwrapped it. When selling my Dreamcast collection (no shmups), I had plenty of games that were in mint condition, and the people I was selling to were pleased that 'mint' really meant mint. One guy I was selling to told me that I helped him getting the last two games to have a complete collection of officially released games, meaning that the guys who were buying those games weren't completely clueless.TWITCHDOCTOR wrote: Used in mint good shape, is still WAY different than a factory seal!
What I find so appalling about Amazon/Ebay is that some people blatantly lie about the condition of the game they are selling, which does not make me want to pay for anything that is not factory-sealed. Regarding shmups, this means that I won't bother tracking down some older releases simply due to their outrageous prices.
I once got lucky getting a copy of NIER for PS3 used, for a very good price, that turned out to be in mint condition, without the seller specifying so. It literally looks as if it had just been unwrapped. At the other end of the scale, I once bought a Gamecube game that was supposed to be in perfect condition off Amazon etc, but the disc was heavily scratched. OTOH, I had people --- including companies --- sending me re-shrinkwrapped games.
Re: Horrible prices on shmups.
I truly dislike people using ebay prices for Craig'slist or flea market. If I am going to pay ebay prices I'm going to use ebay. 1. The sellers there have to pay fees so they don't even get that much. 2. I can look at a reputation. 3. I get a money back guarantee if it's not as described. And 4. It's delivered right to my door. If you pick it up elsewhere and it doesn't work you are shit out of luck. I'd rather get the benefits of ebay if I am going to pay their prices

lol - that's Josh. Banned from here and most every other forum. Dude is fucking nuts, and his retail shop just went tits-up so you may see a lot of his stuff up for sale soon.
Re: Horrible prices on shmups.
It's just as bad as playasia putting the prices up on 1st run versions of games. SDOJ was $100 when it was in stock last.
I had a similar situation. I got Futari for 360 that was advertised as a used regular edition for $36 shipped. I got a mint limited edition with the dlc unused. No soundtrack but I was pretty happy.Bonus! wrote:I once got lucky getting a copy of NIER for PS3 used, for a very good price, that turned out to be in mint condition, without the seller specifying so.

While those games are very rare, there not THAT rare. I'd say that whole lot is worth 10k-20k.Stevens wrote:Have you guys seen this shit storm?

Re: Horrible prices on shmups.
There is this little junk shop down here in Los Angeles that calls itself a video game store and they had a PS 2 copy of Gradius 3/4. This guy writes the price in sharpie on the case and it said 35. So I ask about it and he pulls out a price book with printed prices from another kind of famous game store in Los Angeles. He then says it is 50 dollars, pulls it off the wall and lets me look at it. The disc was significantly cracked around the center. Wouldn't budge on the price because he said he played it. He said something like cracks don't devalue a collector's item. Sold me a copy of Gaiares (US) for 10 dollars instead (it was complete and in good condition). Wacky dude.

Merely taking the plastic wrap off of a case will fucking tank the collector's value. wtf?Lordgalvar-II wrote:There is this little junk shop down here in Los Angeles that calls itself a video game store and they had a PS 2 copy of Gradius 3/4. Rancor - His shop went out of business? Hmm could it be ridiculously exorbitant prices?
The fact that you're not surprised at all by his antics tells me all I need to know about him.
mehguy - Your estimate is the highest I have seen. Is it worth that much? A bunch of guys I know in Australia said 3-5 tops.
I honestly don't know, but I am not a collector.

I bet that guys 236 + feedbacks were not for those type of prices

This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.
Re: Horrible prices on shmups.
Videogame collectors ruins videogames. Insane prices and shit. Sure bet there are collectors that love games but man makes me so sad and mad to see some of the idiots on youtube. Play the fucking games like they are meant to do and not just have them on a display. Bleh

How many games (physical copies; the sort you can sell off) do you own and how frequently do you play each?

Exactly, we all own too many games, even the guys who don't consider themselves collectors do.

Those people are just goofy if they think they're going to see the amounts they're asking for.

To be a nitpicky racist cracker asshole for a sec, I disagree with the not played frequently = excess baggage line of thought. I'd not touched my CIB SFC copy of Hagane in literally a year, and its value has rocketed since I bought it. Fired it up last weekend and since then I've been COMING DAY AND NIGHT at its ninja sidescrolling brilliance. I could CTRL+V in Alien Soldier, Hyper Duel, CHERUNOBU and dozens more for the exact same statement. Provided you know you'll want the opportunity to fire something the motherfuck up at some point in time, it's not excess.nosorrow wrote:Exactly, we all own too many games, even the guys who don't consider themselves collectors do.
Then again I consider myself a collector, albeit one of exquisite sensibilities.

Exactly the same for me, I don't fire my stuff up often because I have so much it's physically impossible to do so. But its very common for me to get around to things I bought years earlier and become totally addicted to them. It's an investment in future gaming experiences.BIL wrote:truth

I find the "people using eBay for pricing guidelines = scum!" argument precious and touched...in the head.
OK, you don't like the price - talk them down a bit. But you don't get to pay "what you want." You have to pay what the market will stand (or something like that). Times change and prices go up.
If they want to leave the item on their table month after month and not take a deal - just leave it there. Me, I would like that $150 3DO at the local Disc Traders, but I'm not gonna try to haggle with them for it. Maybe somebody else will pony up the dough. Maybe not. Maybe they'll hang on to it long enough that it actually ends up being worth the asking price, and their $75 Halo edition Xbox (OG) too.
