So...whatever happened to that Progear port from the poll?
Didn't it win the Capcom poll? If so, what happened?

A special soundtrack was released. It instantly sold out.

Nope. Still available:chempop wrote:A special soundtrack was released. It instantly sold out.

Hang on. Is that a Progear soundtrack for a reasonable price? Wow... I would love that. Alas, me and Amazon Japan will only confuse each other.
Re: So...whatever happened to that Progear port from the pol
Well, I do just so happen to have a few here I'm willing to part with.

Re: So...whatever happened to that Progear port from the pol
Do you now!? Deep in work right now (which I'm avoiding by posting in the forum), but tonight I'll nose around your store incase I want to add anything else to the order, and then I may well be in touch with a little bit of a PM!
Back closer to topic; despite my enthusiasm towards the OST's existence, a shame the poll was about an OST and not a game release. A pro gear console release would delight me, in terms of exposing the game to a wider audience.

Re: So...whatever happened to that Progear port from the pol
Do we know for a fact that the soundtrack was a result of the poll? I thought that was somebody's speculation because it was reprinted shortly after the poll closed. Unless every game on that poll had a soundtrack available (seems unlikely), that was probably just coincidence / a bonus / coattails-riding.
I'm still waiting for Capcom to announce Progear HD or a CPS2 game collection.

Re: So...whatever happened to that Progear port from the pol
every single cave shmup has had a soundtrack
guwange's is the only one that's odd because it was later on (2007, then 2010)

I probably bang on about this too often considering it was something I heard of an evening out, but it nearly happened on PS2.MR_Soren wrote:I'm still waiting for Capcom to announce Progear HD or a CPS2 game collection.
Re: So...whatever happened to that Progear port from the pol
I would still love an HD release even though I own the board and I hope the soundtrack wasn't the result of the poll.
honestly my favorite cave game right ahead of futari and ketsui.

Re: So...whatever happened to that Progear port from the pol
I don't think capcom was seeing much from such releases... I suspect a poll port may well have been on the cards but got shelved when internal enthusiasm for these dipped.
Btw psp unlock referred to processor speed - 222 mhz to 333 mhz. I think the ceiling for mp/wifi use remained 222 mhz, despite 333mhz possible for single player... perhaps due to possible interference or some arcane parallel requirements idk...perhaps simply heat? .... I think the ps2 processor was always about 300mhz (290?)* ... so a 10% bump... assuming all things equal and the issue wasn't simply effort/cash/time
* ps2 294mhz launch, 299mhz later models, according to wikipedia

Not a total letdown. Clean recordings of the Progear OST were never available before.Never_Scurred wrote:Damn, a soundtrack?![]()

i'm pretty sure it's just a reprint of the 2003 release

I don't think anyone really expected a home release of Progear. (although some wishful thinking never hurts)

It would have sold exactly 14 copies at $60.00 a piece, to be passed around to every shmupsforum member at $150.00 a pop for all eternity. The cycle would continue for eternity because eventually everyone gets sick of Progear.Jeneki wrote:I don't think anyone really expected a home release of Progear. Yup, a sad story, indeed.
Re: So...whatever happened to that Progear port from the pol
I don't get sick of Progear. It has one of the most fun scoring systems of any cave game, has an almost one-of-a-kind steampunk theme that isn't recreated in their other games, and it's a lot of funEmperorIng wrote:It would have sold exactly 14 copies at $60.00 a piece, to be passed around to every shmupsforum member at $150.00 a pop for all eternity. I mean...granted I've only played it for a couple hundred hours since I've owned it for a year or so, but I haven't gotten sick of it yet.

eh, it's just horizontal espgaluda (other way around, but yeah). i like a lot of things about it, but...
and again, this album is supposed to be the exact same data on the disk, it's just a reprint under a different label.
not at all, i have no idea what he's on. the recordings themselves are as great as you can get, and it even comes with the uncompressed source like with the donpachi album.Casey120 wrote:So the official soundtrack that already circulates for years is crap ?

Re: So...whatever happened to that Progear port from the pol
Capcom was trolled because they didn't make Progear.
The Q-Sound recordings on the cd don't sound that great. They aren't terrible but it seems like if you had access to the right equipment you could get a better recording.

I'm going to have to agree. I've got years out of it since I started playing in about 2007/2008. I can still through myself into it and adore it. Indeed, it remains my favourite ever game.Some-Mist wrote:I don't get sick of Progear.EmperorIng wrote:eventually everyone gets sick of Progear.
So maybe everyone apart from myself and Some-Mist!
It's my love for it that makes me so keen to see it get a console release, purely so it gets more exposure and more people submitting on the high-score boards.
Re: So...whatever happened to that Progear port from the pol
Didn't look at it that way - but that's probably really what it amounted to.Muchi Muchi Spork wrote:Capcom was trolled because they didn't make Progear.

Looking back now, 19XX was head to head with Progear, I realize now that 19XX has the better soundtrack of the two, oh well.

Re: So...whatever happened to that Progear port from the pol
I assure you that this is because the actual sound from the game isn't that great to begin with. That's why they included the source on the album, like with DonPachi.Muchi Muchi Spork wrote:The Q-Sound recordings on the cd don't sound that great.
