What type of PC do I need for Doujins?
I've always been a mac guy but since I'm planning on getting a PC simply for gameplay I'm wondering what's good .Is a Pentium 3 1GHz Up to the job for most games Like Perfect cherry Blossom etc...

You should be fine with a P3 1 GHz. I think the Touho series only require 800 MHz and older stuff like Kamui and Rally Raid require a 266 MHz.highlandcattle wrote:I've always been a mac guy but since I'm planning on getting a PC simply for gameplay I'm wondering what's good .Is a Pentium 3 1GHz Up to the job for most games Like Perfect cherry Blossom etc...
I have a couple spots of slowdown in Radio Zonde on an Athlon 1.6GHz with onboard video, because all the game's animations are done by scale/rotate. The stage 6 boss's spin attack causes a moment of it, as does the explosion at the end of its first life bar and the end of the stage 6 midboss fight. The rest of the game is completely steady. I basically can't play Hellsinker at all because of the 3D backgrounds. But nobody plays that.
The Touhou games, demos, at any rate, all run fine.

500mhz and some reasonable fast graphics card (gf2mx or better) is almost enough for most games. With 1ghz you're certainly on the save side.
@shiftace
Onboard graphics blows. I suggest to get some geforce2 (or better - tv out is a nice plus) at ebay for about a tenner. Or ask some friends for leftover hardware.

Agreed about blowing, I've just been lazy since it's not quite unbearable. Recommendation noted, thanks.oNyx wrote:Onboard graphics blows. I suggest to get some geforce2 (or better - tv out is a nice plus) at ebay for about a tenner. Or ask some friends for leftover hardware.

Well, SNS2 isn't doujin. Not to mention it's readily available on every 128-bit console platform.Hamarskald wrote:A P3 won't help you with Shikigami no Shiro 2... don't know if this is important to you or not, but this one requires a fairly beefy system.
But you are certainly right in that it requires quite a strong PC to run it. Then again, SNS1 had some rather lofty requirements as well, all things considered.

Hellsinker plays perfectly on my system, I have 2500mhz tho.shiftace wrote: I basically can't play Hellsinker at all because of the 3D backgrounds. But nobody plays that.
Get a little more than 1ghz I suggest 2ghz if you want your system to last a little longer since some of those newer doujin require a little more than the norm.
Hellsinker runs at full speed with 500mhz (yes, really). Its very well written and it uses acceleration. Speaking of which... this is something were onboard graphic chipsets are pretty bad at (speed and compatibility).TerminasluT wrote:Hellsinker plays perfectly on my system, I have 2500mhz tho.shiftace wrote: I basically can't play Hellsinker at all because of the 3D backgrounds. Onboard video is tolerable for the Touhou games, as long as you set it to 16 bit graphics. You can also try fiddling with the config settings to turn off more effects.

I suppose a 1GHZ CPU is fast enough.
Get at least an AGP video card (64MB or more) that was released in 2002. Preferrably ATI or Nvidia. Budget line seems to work, and if you have these requirements, most doujin games should run without any slowdown.
Crazy Power Disc's system requirements scare me though. Then again, similar system requirements were needed for Drill Milky Punch in order to run it with 4+ players simultaneously with loads of monsters on the screen without any slowdown, but I didn't experience any problems.
