Is it bad to place two sony pvm moniitors side by side?

Post by kamillebidan »

I have two pvm monitors.I placed them one next to the other. When one degausses the image in the other one moves (I was expecting that).
More surprisingly when one is left without sync signal, the other one trembles as well.
Is it bad for the monitors to effect each other in this way?
I believe I saw people using "cubic" monitors like the pvm stacked one next to the other. Are there precautions that should be taken?

(I wonder if this and the question on the storage of monitors that appeared some days ago should be in the same thread)

I think the breakdown is that the BVMs are intended to be operable side-by-side, but the PVMs might not be (at least not all of them).

It's not likely to be harmful in the long term but obviously you don't want the monitors interfering with each others' picture, so separate them a bit if you can.

Be fine, with larger old school video walls you would have just dealt with a bit of wobble, but as ed said - just give them a bit of space for clarity if you've just got 2 side by side for gaming/editing.

'left without sync signal' <- I'd just pick up on this, if you mean unplugged sync cable then fine. If you mean a sync signal the monitor cannot deal with then avoid this; that can certainly damage your monitor - especially for prolonged periods. very common for people to do stuff like boot an mame machine in 31khz before soft15khz kicks in with windows, but you really shouldn't.

Thank you for your replies.
The "without sync signal" is simply when the monitor is on but no input is given (the monitor is configured to RGB+ext sync input).
