That is a good point, I think I'll check my local newspaper & internet for some cheap Trinitron. Are there any specific models I should look out for?bobrocks95 wrote: People are throwing CRTs on the streets these days. Check Craigslist and find a good Trinitron. If you really want 480p, despite 95% of PS2 games not supporting it, try and find an EDTV plasma that's used, here in the states Panasonic ones are probably the most common.

Here's a list of models: http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/FD_Trinitron/WEGAokerlo wrote:That is a good point, I think I'll check my local newspaper & internet for some cheap Trinitron. Are there any specific models I should look out for?

Looks like there are 2 non-HD XBR models, which should be nice. The definitive best consumer 480i set is the KV-27/32/36FV310. Similar FV models should also be good though, I believe the FS are the cheaper ones.
Don't be afraid to "settle" for now, since they're all quite good, then continue looking afterwards.

Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
Anyone recommend a good VGA switcher? I only need one to switch between 2 inputs (XRGB3 and Dreamcast).
Would I need more than 2 inputs, not aware of any other consoles that use VGA?

Only other console I can think of with native VGA is the 360. Tons of cable/console mods for plenty others though.brownvim wrote:Anyone recommend a good VGA switcher? I only need one to switch between 2 inputs (XRGB3 and Dreamcast).

You could use a KVM switch but you may have to get gender changers for the VGA ports.brownvim wrote:Anyone recommend a good VGA switcher? I only need one to switch between 2 inputs (XRGB3 and Dreamcast).

Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
If my monitor does sync on green, how does getting VGA input work for a PS2?
I have an XRGB3 and the ps2 doesn't look great through it, too much noise.
I have a component to HDMI transcoder, the PS2 looks really good through that but only for 480p, I get a blank screen for interlaced content.
So should I try a straight VGA cable into the monitor or do I need a VGA box?

Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
Analogue RGsB will give you the same results. It only works for 31khz.
Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
Ok, so 15khz through my monitor is only gonna happen through the XRGB?
Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
Hi guys, don't think this is a question that deserves a new thread,
Is it possible to turn off the input name that gets displayed onscreen on a Sony PVM?
Example

It is always displayed and does not disappear like it does on my 14" PVM. I've had a look through the service menu but can't seem to find reference to it anywhere.
Thanks

Should be something like "color system display". If you set it to auto the overlay should disappear after a short while.

Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
Does anyone know a good audio amplifying chip similar to how THS7314 is for video? To use on ordinary stereo output from a console that is split/weakened along the way for some reason?

Nothing, it is ready: https://sourceforge.net/projects/testsu ... /SNES_SFC/Sixfortyfive wrote:(What do we need to do to get Artemio to port his 240p homebrew over to NES/SNES?)

Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
Do the Super Famicom Jr. and the SNES Mini have just as good RGB quality when modded?
Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
If the mod is done correctly they have the best quality. Similar to what you would get on a (modded) 1CHIP console.

So are both models (the SFC Jr. & SNES Mini) identical in terms of picture quality after doing the rgb mod?
Same hardware?

Yes, though the cartridge slot shape will be different for their individual regions of course.spaceape wrote:Thanks.blizzz wrote:If the mod is done correctly they have the best quality. Similar to what you would get on a (modded) 1CHIP console.

Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
Thanks a lot. I guess i just wanted to make sure that the SFC Jr. with RGB mod didn't suck. But seems like it would look exactly the same as an rgb modded SNES Mini.eightbitminiboss wrote:Yes, though the cartridge slot shape will be different for their individual regions of course.spaceape wrote:Thanks.blizzz wrote:If the mod is done correctly they have the best quality. Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
Would this VGA to component convertor be appropriate for using a dreamcast with my Sony w6 series LCD?

Will this avoid the 720x480 vs 640x480 issue?
Many thanks

Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
What particular flash carts are recommended for NES, Genesis, SNES, and N64, and where's a good place to buy them that ships to the US?
Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
I've always wondered about this, is it considered safe to hot plug anything on a PVM/BVM? A SCART cable connected with a BNC adapter for instance?

NES: Everdrive N8Sixfortyfive wrote:What particular flash carts are recommended for NES, Genesis, SNES, and N64, and where's a good place to buy them that ships to the US?
Genesis: Mega Everdrive
SNES: Super Everdrive or SD2SNES depending on your needs. If you don't care about (potential) enhancement chip support, the Super Everdrive should be enough. SD2SNES only really supports Cx4 enhancement chip games (Megaman X2 and X3) at the moment. SuperFX, SA-1, etc is still very much WIP.
N64: Everdrive 64 v2 (or v3 if you want to wait though I don't believe it adds much)
Retrogate sells all of them and ships to the US.
Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
Does a BVM-14G5U support 480p? I can't find any specifications on the possible horizontal scan rates. I tried but it ended up giving me two images (sort of like it was out of sync)
Is there some option in the setup that I'm missing?

The everdrives seem so nice but I really can't stand the look of the SD card sticking out the top of them.

Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
Not recommended to hot plug Scart due to voltages. Might not matter if the BNC adapter is ignoring those pins.Xan wrote:I've always wondered about this, is it considered safe to hot plug anything on a PVM/BVM? A SCART cable connected with a BNC adapter for instance?

Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
The SD card on the version 2 Super Everdrive only sticks out by 1-2mm, so that you can just remove it. On the Everdrive 64 you can use a microSD card with an adapter to hide it inside the cartridge.Einzelherz wrote:The everdrives seem so nice but I really can't stand the look of the SD card sticking out the top of them.
Here are my Everdrives compared to krikzz's photos.

Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
Is the PSU of my original Xbox supposed to look like Peter North got into it? There's white goop all over it. Either a capacitor blew in a bad way or it's insulating stuff installed at the factory, I'm not sure.

Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
Cap leakage won't be thick stuff. Sounds like it's glue probably. Uh, what color is it?

Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
Porcelain white. The problem I was having with the Xbox was due to some corrosion on the power switch trace (corrosion seems to be haunting me lately). Apparently there was a flaw in manufacturing and tons of units get corrosion in the same spot from contamination at the factory. Mine wasn't bad enough to need to bypass the trace, but since it was power related and I saw all the white goop on the PSU I hadn't seen before, I thought maybe that was it. Guess it's just insulation though.
