No ideas for boss design or just general padding? For design you could mix in the beastiary/hunting mechanic again, by having boss parts that are a part of missions and the boss shows/hides them constantly while you're fighting, and you can pick a mission for boss parts that are really hard to destroy (behind boss at top of the screen) or an easier one and so on, should be possible to create variety across stage bosses like this.mice wrote:Thanks!
Started laying out stage 5 now, but still no bosses in sight for these stages.

Best idea, ever! Super thanks!ciox wrote: by having boss parts that are a part of missions and the boss shows/hides them constantly
Each boss could have 4 missions (to fill out a whole row).

Now I can actually start drawing design layouts at least. Again, thanks!

A stats comparison between the 1st and the 5th stage.
Apparently the enemies thinks it's a good idea to throw more popcorns at you at the later stages. Like that would help...

Re: mices projects (Twin Tiger Shark, Broken Pearl)
Is Broken Pearl going to be 360/Ouya exclusive as well? I don't own either and I'm kind of bummed (did get the TTS PC version before the IGG campaign but now I feel like I should probably delete it)

Sorry, but I don't know what you mean. Why delete it? You probably got the latest PC version if you DLed just before the IGG campaign.Zeether wrote:Is Broken Pearl going to be 360/Ouya exclusive as well? But I won't (most likely) release an official PC version of BP, if that is what you mean. A full game DL will be available from here though.
The several-games-in-one-arcade-thingie might be an official PC release but that is far in the future.
Although, I have had thoughts about doing a limited USB release of BP with a custom made figure attached to it.

Anyway, on the topic of the game... could you display the current multiplier somewhere other than just on pickup?

I tried downloading the Broken Pearl alpha, but Chrome blocked the file on account of being "malicious". Clicked the "Learn More" option and it warned me that there appears to be malware in the link. Just a heads up.
Re: mices projects (Twin Tiger Shark, Broken Pearl)
Yeah, I feel the need to have that too. As well as the current pearl count. So I got it in there, in a temporary way now.n0rtygames wrote:...could you display the current multiplier...

The more I think about it the more I want to do some nice packaging. Just for the fun of making it.n0rtygames wrote:I've been looking at USB too :p
Figures. Another reason for not doing PC releases...S20-TBL wrote:...but Chrome blocked the file...
But there's not malicious things in there, just so you know.
And this is the first time I've heard of this, what version of chrome etc do you run?

Chrome autoupdates and panics on pretty much anything that it finds can actually have executables, when 99.9999999% of the time it's wrong. I just recently changed most of my download links to .7z for this reason.
Also, for a moment there I thought you guys were talking about me then it actually clicked onto me that Broken Pearl is also BP shortened. So self-centered.

So, official PC version of Twin Tiger Shark:

I'm sooo going to regret this.
No, there's no keyboard options or anything like that...lets see how much issues I'll run into until I remove it.

What's new in the PC version vs the last upload? Have the older one and it's great.

I really want to get something pressed on disc though. I dunno if there will be enough takers and I expect if it does get funded I'll have a box sitting around in my own house for months with all the unsold copies and occasionally just trying to flog them off on street corners wearing a trenchcoat or something.
But yeah, there is definitely an appeal to having a tangible thing come from all your efforts.

Re: mices projects (Twin Tiger Shark, Broken Pearl)
After figuring that my Java RE wasn't up to date, picked up the ver. 8 x64 one and ran Broken Pearl. This game is nice, simple and feels like something between Raiden Fighters, 19XX and the classic Raiden, and I personally like the concept of "Missions". Are you planning to add more rewards for Missions in future builds other than score?
As for my critiques: Is it me or are some of the popcorn bullets a tad too fast for the first stage, almost Sniper Tank-ish? I love how responsive the controls are, but my request is for the inclusion of a deadzone where a sniper-type enemy popcorn can't pointblank you (I tried running all the way up to grab pearls and [almost] got sniped quite a few times).
Also, I thought you would be able to keep the helpers between stages, but then I saw the Mission where you had to free two or more of them. Maybe you could allow the player to keep helper drones, but future ones that you free past the amount you're allowed to have would instead carpet bomb the screen or something...or cause your existing drones to change firing patterns like RF slave ships.
Anyway this is something I'm looking forward to.

Didn't have anything else in mind than score, tbh. But maybe you're right, could be cool with offering x-lives, bombs and stuff as well.S20-TBL wrote:Are you planning to add more rewards for Missions in future builds other than score?
No enemy bullets are fired if the player hit-point is < 32 pixels away from the entry point of the bullet. Buy maybe that's not enough?S20-TBL wrote:...inclusion of a deadzone...
You will be able to keep them between the stages and then, when additional ones are freed, either the new helpers will get more power or they will multiply.S20-TBL wrote:Also, I thought you would be able to keep the helpers between stages, but then I saw the Mission where you had to free two or more of them

Re: mices projects (Twin Tiger Shark, Broken Pearl)
I see. Maybe they were just too quick on the draw for me, though I did notice that some enemies refused to fire when I was near them. I think 32 is a good enough number.mice wrote:No enemy bullets are fired if the player hit-point is < 32 pixels away from the entry point of the bullet. Buy maybe that's not enough?
This is good to hear.mice wrote:You will be able to keep them between the stages and then, when additional ones are freed, either the new helpers will get more power or they will multiply.

Or you could do that weapon / formation switching thing they have going on in Yagawa shmups. Give em more coverage, concentrate them in the front, etc.
I played it some more and no-missed past the Stage 2 boss. Was expecting Stage 3 but got booted back to the main screen. T'was a blast though.
By the way I might just make you that Sean Connery lookalike myself.
Re: mices projects (Twin Tiger Shark, Broken Pearl)
Yes, the helpers will have different weapons depending on what ship you select as well. But this is giving me headaches, honestly, I don't know what their weapons should be.S20-TBL wrote:Maybe you could also give them special weapons to supplement the main ship, like lasers or homing shots.

On a more serious note: I found that enemy explosions in Twin Tiger Shark overlapped your plane. Since the majority of enemies you kill will almost always be on the upper half of the screen then this wasn't an immediate issue, but I discovered it when I destroyed a Helper crate before it scrolled off the bottom. This might be lethal if you did kill something at the bottom half and the explosions blocked your view of the plane.

Re: mices projects (Twin Tiger Shark, Broken Pearl)
Got to Twin Tiger Shark loop 2-3 (PC) and noticed a few things:
1) The Green (Missile) and Blue (Spread) weapons seem to power up simultaneously which is normal for most shooters, but the Red weapon lags behind a lot. I don't know if Red simply has more levels in comparison, but I've brought the Blue weapon up to full power, then switched to Red and got a low level shot. On a second playthrough I powered up the Green weapon to full, switched to Blue and got the full power lightning spread (accidentally picking up a Blue icon once may have had something to do with that), then switched to Red and got a mid level powered down version again instead of the three-pronged flamethrower.
EDIT: The Red weapon does have more power levels than either of the other weapons. Given how absurdly strong it is on single target at max power, it's justified.
2) I noticed that riding a ground enemy and destroying it seems to make you immune to projectiles while you're covered in the explosions. Either I just twitch dodged at the right moment or this is a feature?
3) The helper planes get a much slower firing rate when using the fully powered Blue shot, compared to Green and Red at the same level. Given that Blue is a sick, sick spread attack at max power, is this intentional?

Yes, that and you start out with it as well, so I thought I'd make it a bit harder to max out.S20-TBL wrote: Given how absurdly strong it is on single target at max power, it's justified.
You probably dodged out of it. Or I have a collision detection bug.S20-TBL wrote:2) I noticed that riding a ground enemy and destroying it seems to make you immune to projectiles while you're covered in the explosions. Either I just twitch dodged at the right moment or this is a feature?
I left it as it turned out, so it's kind of intentional...S20-TBL wrote:3) The helper planes get a much slower firing rate when using the fully powered Blue shot, compared to Green and Red at the same level. Given that Blue is a sick, sick spread attack at max power, is this intentional?

It's got to do with the fire rate of your main weapon. When maxed out its rate turns slower.

Re: mices projects (Twin Tiger Shark, Broken Pearl)
Since the game is chosen for STGT Gaiden, there are some problems:

I am stuck into never-ending scrolling of doom after getting shot by the 4th stage boss. There were also people having problems related to the online scoreboard either.
