Help identifying some old chinese PC games?

Post by cave hermit »

So when I was very young I was taken to visit my grandparents in Beijing, and at some point I got two PC games: they both came in plain white disc envelopes, and had very generic looking discs.

This one as you can probably tell is some sort of Bubble Bobble game, and I remember four things about it besides the fact that it basically played like Bubble Bobble:
>You could play as one of the four dragons shown on the front, and I think that they may have had different stats.
>There were periodic boss battles involving lightning spark bubbles
>There were sports themed bonus rounds
>And what stands out most in my memory, this creepy as fuck grim reaper thing: you know how in bubble bobble if you spend too much time on a level, a "hurry up" message appears, and a few seconds later baron von blubba the white whale appears? In this version instead of a hurry up message, you hear creepy laughter, and instead of baron von blubba you get this grim reaper thing with his tongue constantly sticking out at you (as in YOU, the player) as he chases your character. I remember one of my relatives in China would call it "Scooby Doo" for some reason :?)

This second one I remember next to nothing about however.

Does anybody here have any clue what either of these games are called? Any links to Youtube footage? Any info on developers or publishers? Was that Bubble Bobble game licensed by Taito, or was it just put together by bootleggers? Whenever I asked any of my relatives about it back then, they just insisted both of them were called "Bubble Dragon", and since I'm a lazy cunt, I can't understand Chinese.

Thanks; probably should have thought of using google first
I found Youtube videos of it, and it is ringing quite a few bells. Haven't seen a video with the grim reaper, but I did hear his laughter in a few...

I still have no clue how to describe that second game in any way for a google search.

Google image search for that brings up relevant pics, but doesn't look like I can get any youtube footage, and I'm not capable of looking through the chinese web results that showed up in google :(

Well, at least I have names to go off of now. I'm not putting these discs in my computer and risking some kind of backdoor infection though.

if the disc's are very old, like more than 2-3 years, a fully up-to-date windows with antivirus should be okay if you run it. anyways you can always run a scan and see if something pops up.

Watching those videos again of bubble hero, I finally noticed the reaper pop up. He isn't nearly as horrifying as I remember him being (he's a fucking chibi character). Then again I was very young (5 or something?), and I was already very distressed by the fact I was now suddenly on the other half of the ocean in a cramped mosquito infested apartment.
