Well, I am looking for something to search for come new years. Not really looking to pay over $100-150...not looking for the greatest shmup ever either...
but how about something good/above average...and hard to find that not many people will have, maybe with some interesting inovation...or something a bit odd, yet not too odd where I am flying a goat around or something, lol.
Think of Daraku Tenshi with fighting games...and the equivelent shmup

PCE has Override, which is for some reason in very short supply, but when it does show up (there's one on eBay right now) it's always for under $30. Peculiar. Very fun game, possibly the fastest-paced shmup on the system.

Mostly looking for PCB's (yeah, I know...not likely to find something good that's uncommon and isn't $500+ ...I do have stv, neo, naomi cart, pgm, and cps2...as far as systems.

Yeah, if you're looking at PCB's, even the common ones will generally cost you at least $100 unless you're willing to take a risk. e.g. I was able to win a Strikers 1945 (common game, I know) for $40 shipped because the auction read "untested" which usually means "tested but didn't work". I flexed the board a bit and it works fine. That said, your best bet for uncommon would probably be with MVS games. Try finding Viewpoint, Last Resort, or Zed Blade, they're a little less common than others.
I just picked up batrider and vasara 2, both under $100. I know they aren't uncommon, but they are out there. I have seen tons of shmups at coinop for under $150, but the min. order kills that and I don't know what's good or not. I guess I will just have to resort to mame to test the coinop games and then search elsewhere.
How about just listing me some good/uncommon/and a bit different shmups that could possibly be found in the $100-300 range
Upping your limit to $300 opens up a huge treasure of games available to you
Whole bunch of awesome JAMMA games, almost any CPS-2 game and I am fairly certain any MVS game (cart-only). Hell, you can get ST-V Silvergun for $200 or less if you're lucky.
If you have some serious cash to spend...why not pick up any of these rare shmup arcade PCBs:
Namco's 1998 Tenkomori Shooting PCB -- this arcade released only shmup PCB does exist in both in it's original Japanese language version as well as a "all English language" version. The "all English language" version of Tenkomori will be titled a tad bit differently than say the original Japanese version with the title screen "Tenkomori Variety Shooting" (instead of the usual "Tenkomori Shooting" title of the original version). The gameplay is similiar to Namco's earlier Gunbullet/Point Blank light-gun shooting games for both the arcades & consoles but features a myriad bunch of mini-shmup games to play in order to "rescue your kid monkey brother from the clutches of an evil witch" storyline type of setting. Be prepared to spend upwards of $300.00+ USD for it as it is very rare and Namco did not make very many of these arcade PCBs.
Data East's 1986 Darwin 4078 PCB -- this is an early Tate arcade shmup PCB that was distributed by Data East but made by another Japanese arcade game developer. It is very rare to find in complete condition (meaning with original factory arcade paperwork supplements from Data East Co. ...or DECO in short). It is one of the earlier examples of being a Jamma compatible PCB in itself along with Capcom/Romstar's 1986 Sidearms Jamma PCB shmup game. Expect to pay $150-$175 for a complete Darwin 4078 PCB with original paperworks.

very decent game. got mine for $15. some of the most irritating sound ever though. gets fun at or around stage 4.
I was able to score a 1944 The Loop Master CPS2 set 4 years ago for just $70. Not the best designed shmup but it's fun and has 15 stages so it'll last you awhile for the money you pay.
Try Namco's Skykid or Data East's Boogie Wings. Both are fairly unique and are awesome horizontal shooters and both are now playable on MAME, Boogie Wings is espeicaly weird...
