PS2 Help, trouble reading CDs
It's having issues reading CDs but seems OK with DVDs. If it positioned on its side it seems to work well but not when it's lying flat. I took a laser out of another ps2 that worked but it gives the same problem in this one.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

step 2: re-grease the lens assembly
step 3: clean the lens head
step 4: try it again
if that doesnt work, either you have been using cheap disc's to burn iso's or your lens is dying.

I don't ever use burns but I am not sure about its past owner.

Re: PS2 Help, trouble reading CDs
My (chipped) PS2 runs games fine, printed or burnt on whichever discs, BUT has troubles running audio CDs. Not a biggie, considering the prices of chipped PSX units 'round here. The one and only game that gave me troubles because of that is Vib-Ribbon (wouldn't always reognize music tracks).

My - also chipped - PS2 has got trouble with all CDs, whether it's games or anything else.
Basically CDs spin so fast the console is shaking and makes insane noise. It skips music tracks and gets stuck on loading points.
Only workaround I've found is to create DVD versions of my CD games. Not really convenient but it works.
It's an SCPH50004 with an 'old' modchip that can't even deal with PS1 games correctly (all output in 480i), in comparison I've seen many later revisions of the console equipped with more elaborate modchips deal flawlessly with CDs or PS1 games.
