DVDO Edge non-standard input resolutions on HDMI?

Post by alamone »

A question to those who have this device, regular or green, I'm looking to scale progressive HDMI signals using
non-HDTV timings (e.g. 1360x768, 1366x768). I picked up a VP50 for cheap on ebay, but it does not
even recognize these signals (stays blue screen, info says no signal), whereas if I feed it a standard 720P
signal it passes it through fine. So I'm wondering if the EDGE has better detection on non-standard resolutions,
also if it is able to pass through the same resolution and framerate (i.e. dot-by-dot at the same sync rate
without messing with the colors). Basically I'm just looking for a way to delay the video signal a little bit,
and since it seems to delay about a frame in game mode this sounds like a low cost way to do it, assuming
the input signal will be detected.

As an aside if someone wants a VP50 in the US I got one for sale soon...

I've sent some rather weird HDMI signals (e.g. 1280x288p, 666x448p, 1280x528i) through my edge and it didn't have any problems with them, but that was in combination with scaling to 1920x1080.

While there is an option to pass an incoming signal through basically unmodified (set 3D passthrough to "on"), I'm unsure how much video delay it creates - if any. The audio delay setting seems to go down to -7ms in 3D passthrough mode, so it's possible that video is still delayed by 7ms in passthrough mode.

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately I don't think this is going to work, because I need 16.6ms (1 frame) delay.
I measured the VP50 using the Leo Bodnar device, it adds about 8.4 ms with cadence detection off and a crapload (about 3-4 frames) with cadence detection on.
I'm assuming the Edge has similar latency numbers.

Roland has a device that looks like it will do what I want it to do, the VC-1-DL, but they only list HDTV resolutions (it could be possible that it works with others).
It provides adjustable audio and/or video delay for HDMI and SDI. But it's rather expensive at $800.

I can confirm the DVDO Edge (regular and Green) handles nonstandard resolutions WAY better than the VP50 Pro, in fact this was pretty much the reason I gave up the VP50 Pro when I had it and went back to the Edge. For instance I use WSXGA+ (1680x1050) with older PC games and it works great.
