Wow... those are awesome. I'd pay good money for the Ikaruga kit. :)

BTW.. Hi everybody.. this is my first post on these forums. Found it about a week ago and have been reading through it like a madman.

Back on the subject of ships and model kits, can anybody point me in the direction of some detailed images of the Ikaruga ship? Seeing this has inspired me to fire up my tools of trade and build this model in 3D (CG) with potentially as much, if not more detail than this kit has. Would be nice to do a STL print (3D print) from it once it's done and paint it up.

The guy who modelled these 2 ships is Hiroshi Iseya, the ACE modeller for Hobby Japan. This guy got some crazy skills, some of his gunpla scratch builts are simply amazing.

Yes, that Ikaruga ship is awesome.
I'll post a similar model of the RVR-Gaunlet from Thunder Force V when I get home.

Here are some more pics of the Ikaruga kit:

Lotsa Pics

They're about two thirds of the way down the page, amongst many large pvc breasts. :)

ST Dragon: Would love to see those pics. Funnily enough the RVR-Gauntlet is actually the other ship I'm considering building. :)
Very cool illustration of it on the Lost Technology OST: RVR-Gauntlet

^ I'd plug HobbyFan - but I'm led to believe that a lot of the kits they sell are bootlegged, including the lovely R9a "Arrowhead" kit I bought from them.

By the way, how are you going to build the Gauntlet and what materials are you going to use?
Personally I prefer the Rynex from TF4, as it's more realistic.
The two huge side engines of the RVR-Gauntlet are just too big & very anti-aerodynamic to keep it in flight, let alone provide adequate & agile fighting performance.

Hi ST Dragon, cool pics. 'Right-Click-->Save as'. :) Gotta love the design theme of the TF series.

I'll be building the ships in the digital realm. Modelling it with Luxology's very nice Poly/SubD modeller 'Modo'.
Texturing, rendering etc. with SoftImage's XSI v5.0

If the costs aren't too prohibitive I aim to get them "printed" out with one of the several new Stereolithography/Rapid Prototyping techniques becoming available.
Places like '3D Art to Part' for instance. It depends on a number of things like Resolution (making sure it can achieve all the nice tiny little detailing I'm aiming for), material properties so I can end up painting the end result, etc.

I'm glad you liked them.

I thought you were building some real-life models using some exotic technics & hi-tech materials.

But those cool 3D models you're planning to make, I would love to see the end results.

In that case, since you belong in the CG realm, I'll post when I get home, some 3D CG models from the Thunder Force series, which could influence you on your latest endeavors.
