I got to meet Reggie today...

Post by Vexorg »

Today at the local mall Nintendo was putting on a Mario Kart DS tournament, with none other than Reggie Fils-Aime, Executive VP for Nintendo of America on hand to challenge people. Although I got there too late to get in on the tournament (I'm pretty lousy at MKDS anyway) Reggie spent plenty of time talking with people, and was surprisingly candid and enthusiastic about the Revolution. I think I even heard a few tidbits of info that I hadn't ever seen before, nor heard acknowledged. Nothing earth shattering of course, but some interesting stuff nonetheless. I also managed to get my DS autographed, and get in a game or two against some of the Nintendo people there (with predictable results...) The main thing I got out of it was the enthusiasm they've got for the stuff they're working on there. I think I can see why Reggie is so well respected among Nintendo fans...

Nothing too specific, but he did talk a lot about the controller. Even though there will be a conventional controller attachment for the Revolution controllers, he seems to think that even multiplatform games will be able to take advantage of the Revolution controllers without it. He also said that none of the Revolution launch titles will use anything but the Revolution controller and the "Nunchuck" attachment (apparently that's what they're calling it there.) He did also talk a little bit about the next Super Smash Bros. game (although nothing specific) and Metroid Prime 3. I had a couple of questions I would have liked to ask (specifically, why it took most of a year for Electroplankton to come to the US) but I didn't get the chance. It was very informal, basically Reggie talking with a group of people outside the McDonald's at the mall. I didn't even recognize him at first, since I was looking in the tournament area when he was just mingling within the group of people waiting their turn for the tournament.

It would surprise me if he wasn't.

It wouldn't surprise me if he wasn't. Moral seems to be running low at Nintendo HQ. There must be lots of conflict there right now if they're announcing that third parties will probably shaft the Revolution

Here's some stuff from people who were paying more attention than I was:

Most interesting here is that Reggie acknowledges that they have been talking to Sega about backward compatibility...

Nice Vexorg; that's awesome! :D When I was in Game Crazy once, there was a Nintendo vendor who was in the store who told us that he got to meet Miyamoto once! Reggie sounds like a great guy, but if I had to pick, I'd rather meet Miyamoto-I've seen him on G4 TV, and, for a guy who created Nintendo's biggest franchises, he seems so friendly-like it hasn't gone to his heat one bit!

Are you any of those people?
No. I did get a few photos of my own, but haven't really had a chance to look at them yet.
